Some Guidance with flying needed
Haven't narrowed down an exact date yet, but will be flying in near the end of August from Edmonton AB. I know there are a few people here from the area, or at least Western Canada, can you give me some help here, a little advice, with airlines or best change over places would be great.
Was thinking of flying into PV for a few days then bus into Chapala. Popped that into Expedia, and the first option was flying to Toronto, then Calgary, and on to PV and the rest of the options also kinda sucked. Now I'm going to have a ton of luggage, probley a better plan to go straight to Guad. and settle in prior to vacationing.
So I start researching flights to Guad ~ 22 Hrs travel time, really starting to dislike Expedia. Tried searching by shortest travel time ~ over 10 hrs, better, still a long day, but now we are looking at over $300 more then that 22 hr travel. Don't mind spending a little more to make the day a little easier, but sure would appreciate any tips/advice from you frequent flyers out there :)
One last thing, this is me when I fly, I get a little stressed ...

I think the best flight from Edmonton is the U.S. Air flight that leaves at about 6am and gets here at 5pm with 1 stop in Phoenix. There is no direct flight here.

Thanks for the info Twonk, I like the idea of stopping in phoenix, it's easy to get around.
And Mr W if you remember what flying was like back in the day, smoker or not, very grateful there is no more smoking on planes ~ Just looking for a place where I don't have to hike a mile to get outside for a nasty cigarette or two

Re: Some Guidance with flying needed
Jerlyn, I don't usually advise anyone to book through a travel agent, however, traveling from Edmonton to Guadalajara I found that all the so-called "Best Deals" involved 12 hour layovers at airports,or convoluted routes.
The travel agent took the time to search out flights that didn't involve leaving for the airport at 4.am or arriving a 11.pm, etc., Paying her the extra fee to search my flight was well worth it in terms comfort and convenience.

Eagles found a great flight for you but keep in mind that PV will probably be very hot and humid at the end of August.

Thank you so much for the info everyone, I could not believe the stupidity that Expedia was spewing out, and really, just got frustrated and quit too early :) Moving on Tuesday, so stress level should mellow out some and I'll tackle it again and book something next week. ... as long as I don't start stressing over moving thousands of km's away from home
eta: joined the westjet facebook site quite a while ago - great idea :)

Re: Some Guidance with flying needed
There are good alternatives to Expedia, e.g. Orbitz and Kayak.

go to a travel agent. i have a friend in edmonchuk that used to be one but she still has connections. yes westjet to pv. who cares how hot it is if you're not staying there. connecting flight or comfy bus to gudalajara. the bus is about 5 hrs. then cab to chapala. my son and bil always fly to pv from van or edmonchuk.if ya want the hassal of the excited states fly united. i never fart around with the online stough. if ya don't want a travel agent, contact westjet direct maybe.

Re: Some Guidance with flying needed
Expedia and the other sites do not usually show all airlines/flights. Airlines pay to these services. I have had my T.A. find unadvertised flights on lesser known airlines at better prices.
And I don't think a T.A. charges. You may have issues/costs depending on how much baggage you bring; make sure you look into that aspect also.
