I am thinking of reducing the number of categories on the home page as some of them get little use.

The ones I am thinking of eliminating are:

Fishing in Mexico
Speaking Spanish
Musical Musings
Home & Auto repair
Local Business
Accommodations

I would move what is currently under them to remaining categories.

Thoughts?

They don't bother me,I just click on (view posts since last visit).
It would be nice to see more activity in the speaking Spanish forum.
Just don't eliminate the OCTAGON.
My two centavos.

I would still like to see local business and home and auto repair.
Perhaps you could consolidate them.
The others I don't care about.

I'm with you. I'd like to see repair references remain.

I also use "view posts since last visit" so am not affected by number of forums. Generally though, I think the fewer the better and like your idea.

Being part of the "longevity crowd", 2010, I think it's a good idea and gets my vote.

jaja......well people could still post about those things under the Mirador category. I'm thinking I'll keep the home & auto repairs. The Local Business topics could be posted under the Shopping in Mexico category and Accommodation posts could be put under the Rentals category.

Good plan, Bob.  You could call it "rentals, hotels and B&B's"

I'm all in favor of fewer categories. I'm also in favor of opening the crime section for anyone to see, and not just for members. Don't know why it was closed to general viewing in the first place.

Crime is a need to know category! Too much concealment already on TOB.

Why was the crime forum made members only anyway?

Because a lot of the stuff posted in there isn't verified or is hearsay/second hand reports. Members know how to take this with a grain of salt. Non members (guests) are typically people breezing through and I wouldn't want to give anyone the wrong impression. Besides it gives people a reason to sign up.

I always use the View Posts Since Last Visit function. That way I don't miss anything new and I don't have to scroll through a bunch of stuff that doesn't interest me to find the latest info.

I always use the "View Posts since last visit" function too however guests don't get that option. You have to be logged in to get it.

I have a new IPad which I'm getting used to. So far so good. However, when I go to "insidelakeside" the "view posts since last visit" option doesn't seem to be available. Any thoughts for this technoklutz ?

I went through that with my iPad. If you use Safari instead of Google and go to Inside, log in and use the stay logged in option, then all should be well. At least I think that is what I did. Apple wants you to use Safari so it won't recognize you as logged in until you log in from Safari.
