It was 35 years ago today...

I remember being in the traffic on Hwy 405 in LA when the news came over the radio...

I was in my basement student apartment and heard it over Syracuse University student radio station in Oswego NY. I was very upset.

We had just moved to Southern Oregon and picked up the paper while having coffee on our deck on the Applegate River. We cried and cried.

I was at the Waldorf in New York in the Zebra bar when I heard the news . A patron there wanted to pick up a couple of whores and they refused because they were too depressed to work because of the death of John Lemon. The old man got man and called security to have them kick out but the security refused as they were not working so the old man said he was a guess and started making a scandal so the whores left bu as they were leaving one of them stuck up her lit up cigarette in the face of the old man who started screming..the women disappeared.. I will never forget that day,

I spent 25 years and about a million hours commuting to work on the 405..I don't miss it.

There was, maybe is, a diver training center there. A buddy wanted to work on the rigs in the gulf and thought that would be a good place to start. We were on our way to check the place out. It didn't work out for some forgotten reason.

That makes sense,there is a dive school there,I used to dock my King Cruiser 29 in Wilmington,it's a sketchy town.

I was at sea somewhere between Manila and Singapore. We didn't get much work done that day.

For God's sake people...he was singer in a band...get over it...he's dead and gone!!

Interesting. I live in a town in Mexico where most of the foreigners are older than me. As I read this thread, I was trying to remember where I was when I heard the news….and I have no idea. I was a little too young for Lennon to represent something important to me, but I certainly remember when he was murdered and that it meant a lot to a lot of people. I could see and feel that by the outpour. He was an Icon. A poet even. He moved people.

Obviously he changed lives or we wouldn't feel like this. I truly feel sorry for you if you never understood what Lennon and the Beatles stood for. He was so much more than a singer in a band or a songwriter he was a spokesperson for a whole generation worldwide. You missed something in life Barr. I can imagine what else you missed in life.

Yes, well said Z. I had the tv on but not really watching it, it was football. Howard Cosell broke the news to me. Upset? Yes, you could definitely say that.

I too was watching football. My brother called me and gave me the sad news.

Betcha Barr still hasn't gotten over Lennon proclaiming " We're more popular than Jesus " 1966...
