What are your opinions on medical Marijuana?
I'm hoping people will leave out the political comments.

Medical marijuana is good. Recreational marijuana is good.

Agree. On both counts.
I personally know many people who have benefited from MM. Profoundly!

Both forms are legally available in OR now, where we came from. I wish it was the same here.

I proudly voted in favor of legalizing marijuana in Colorado and it has proven to be a huge boon to the state's economy. None of the awful things the naysayers predicted have happened.
Medical marijuana has a long proven record of success. What's not to like?

MM marijuana should be available to everyone who needs it.
Have never used any of it but I have first hand proof of it's benefits.

Re: Chapala Med
Since I was about 6 years of age, when my family would come to Mexico, I'd see my grandmother rub alcohol that had marijuana in it on her achy joints. She would add a few drops to her morning coffee for unknown reasons. I saw that it helped her with her pain.
After watching various documentaries and the most memorable one being the CNN one by Dr. Sanje Gupta, I think that it has proven useful in some of the case studies they presented.
I practice alopathic medicine that is evidence-based (based on studies published in journals such as JAMA & NEJM) and very little has been published on it. Mostly opinion pieces.
I've seen that it has served it's purpose to stimulate the appetites of those battling cancer, it has provided analgesia for my grandmother when I was a child and on those CNN documentaries I have seen it improve the lives of children suffering from epilepsy etc.
I think that it has it's promises and I'm eager to see what developments are on the horizon.
But just like other meds and substances that impair our senses and delay our motor activity and reflexes, I would not like imagine a truck driver cruising down the GDL-Chapala highway in his 18-wheeler under the sedative effects of Marijuana.
Pros and Cons.

Chapalamed, it is good that you are not in favor of people driving while impaired by anything. It really says nothing more about medical marijuana though since that truck driver should not be driving under the influence of ANYTHING. Is that the only "con" you have for MM?

Re: Chapala Med
It was the only "CON" off the top of my head, medically speaking. That is a public health risk, as is alcohol.
In the end, it's going to be like any other medication. It's going to have it's indications and contraindications. As a doctor, we'll have to weigh risks vs. benefits for each individual patient and to society as a whole.

Again, as a doctor would do with any medication, hopefully.

Re: Chapala Med
My understanding is that medical marijuana contains low amounts of THC, the ingredient responsible for the munchies and sedation effect. Recreational MJ is very different.

Sorry, I thought I had put the link to his video documentary. It's available on Youtube.
Good info and all points of view are explored.

I would just point out that many meds have strong side effects. Years ago, I was on codeine cough syrup and so spaced out I could barely function. I wouldn't want that truck driver using that cough medicine either.

Re: Chapala Med
I saw this docu when it first came out, it is excellent. Like all his other documentaries.
So, here it is 2 years later, a handful of states in the US are able to supply people in need and the others either have to move there or do without. It does work. I have friends - some on this webboard - who are testimonials to MM (medical marijuana/cannabis oil) curing or arresting their cancers and seizures. I also know others. Here in Mexico we await the government to roll over and make MM available for those who need it. The path has legally been cleared but it will be a long slow grind and maybe not happen in our lifetime.
Can you, Dr. Hernandez, supply or help people obtain MM here??? There is a woman on TOB looking for a supplier for her friend who would like to move here but is in the middle of treatment and is afraid to try to bring her medicine over the border. She has stomach cancer and is having good luck with her treatment so far.

Re: Chapala Med
At this point you would need to make your own oil. I do not believe it is available anywhere in Mexico and I certainly wouldn't recommend for anyone to try to bring any sort of Marijuana product across the border. The hard part is getting the correct strain of MJ.
Re: Chapala Med
It's here. And the person who makes the oil grows the Indica.

Re: Chapala Med

Thanks Bob. You answered the question I was asked about helping somebody get the THC in oil or any other form.
I have no contacts as far as people who grow or manufacture hemp, hemp oil etc. Sorry.
But there are people on this and TOB who can point you in the right direction. Hope that helps.

Re: Chapala Med
This is not correct. Hemp oil is not illegal and can be bought over the internet. Friend bought it on Amazon and had it delivered here. Hemp oil is not medical MJ. CBD oil is medical MJ.
“CBD is not a product or component of hemp seeds, and labeling to that effect is misleading and motivated by the desire to take advantage of the legal gray area of CBD under federal law.”

Re: Chapala Med
Well there you go. TrailRunner is the person who knows how to get the oil. So, I am I wrong to assume you'd point them in the right direction if they PM'd you ? I'm sure folks would be most appreciative.
As far as the original question, on my opinion..... I guess I am neutral. There are pros and cons and I am waiting to read more literature on the
subject but thus far I think things look promising.

Re: Chapala Med
Yep, that would be wrong too. I do not know any more than what I already stated. Wish I did know more and could help people.
If a cancer patient has the desire to go the CO route, they should go to Colorado/Washington/Oregon for treatment. That's what I'd do.
