HELP FOR THE HACKED
Need a little help here.
First of all, someone took my handle, erased me from the members list and posted as me with something rude.
I went to my profile page and changed my password.
I tried to correct my email address, but couldn't find a way to do it.
I entered just now, using my new password and it worked okay.
I also tried changing my handle, but it wouldn't accept that.
Still removed from the member list and replaced by the jackass who glommed onto my name.
I've run my malware program. Nothing except the usual attempt by Google to take me away from Firefox.
If I check out altogether and remove the forum cookies, then try to enter as a new entity, would that work?
I have reported this to CBOB, but maybe he's out of town or busy.
Please, would some techie help me out ?

Re: HELP FOR THE HACKED
Gringal,
I can't help you with the web site but I can help you with the malware.
I want you to go to download.com (It's run by Cnet). In the search bar type Malwarebytes. In the resulting listing, download the FREE version. After it downloads, run it. It will update itself then ask if you want to update to the professional version. The answer is NO. Once it has updated the virus definitions, click the scan button and let it run. When it finishes, it will display what it has found. Click on the remove button. It will remove the files it detected and may want you to restart your computer. You should do so anyway even if it doesn't ask you.
Step 2. Go to this Web address: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ and download AdwCleaner 5.0.2.8. Run it. It will update itself. Click SCAN. After it finishes, Click CLEANING. It will remove what it finds. You will get 2 popups. Click OK on both and the computer will restart.
Step 3. Change any passwords you have, email, Facebook, Skype, banking, etc. Make new passwords completely different from what you have now and WRITE THEM DOWN!

Thanks, but I already have Malwares Bytes (free version) on my computer. I'll also install the other one suggested.
My thick headed solution to my problem of being wiped off the members list and replaced by an alien was to:
Log out; delete the forum cookies, re-register under a slightly different handle with a different password and email address and proceed to log back in. This has been a real PITA and whoever would choose to do this to any member is a mean spirited, low class, tiny minded #$%%### who is going to get some very bad karma......hopefully, soon.
Other than that, it's a beautiful day today.

It would be nice to have that level of "freshening up" in general. Alas.

You were not wiped off the members list. Someone hacked your password and signed in as you. It is a reminder for everyone to change your password once in a while.

For a while there, I was off the members list and the only "gringal" was the impostor. However, my password is well and truly changed. That's a good reminder for all of us, though.

Hmmm...... I haven't touched anything. I was out fishing all day. I guess Oncesubtle edited the offensive post.......
If you have changed your password you should be good to go on your old ID.

Thank you!
I didn't post this one, either, Bob!!!! What's going on? This impostor is still "being me".

Re: HELP FOR THE HACKED
You may have noticed the letter "g" in the imposter gringal was not a usual "g" it just looked like one. It was actually a different kind of font. This is how the person makes ID's that look like the real thing. They have been booted and all new accounts now have to be approved by admin before they are activated. Gringal you can use your old ID.

Re: HELP FOR THE HACKED
BTW......their first post was from a server in Guadalajara and the second two posts were from a server in Mazatlan. Interesting.
Re: HELP FOR THE HACKED
They also recently tried to mimic the new Gringally two different ways however now that everyone has to be approved, I see and delete before they can do anything.
Re: HELP FOR THE HACKED
For those that are interested, this is the type of symbol they used for the "g" in gringal. Looks remarkably similar but is read by the computer as a different symbol hence it allowed it to be registered as a new member.

Re: HELP FOR THE HACKED
Good catch Bob, I've see that done before on message boards and it's sometimes very hard to detect.
Glad Gringal is back to normal

Why someone would go to the trouble of impersonating a forum member makes no sense to me.Zedinmexico wrote: It all makes sense.

Just glad you got it fixed. From "Aunt Hill".
I can't think of anyone from either Guadalajara or Mazatlan who is THAT angry with me. Oh well.
