You can also remain "friends" with someone yet block all the crap they post. I have a few under that category....... Jaja.

Yup, I lived downtown GDL for 15 years. I loved it and still miss it. Lakeside or downtown choices are entirely up to you depending on what lifestyle you are looking for. Both places have pros and cons.

I am very interested in your descriptions of GDL.   Can you share here?  Or would you prefer to PM me?

I lived in Ecuador for 3 1/2 years...enjoyed EVERY single day there!! Relocating to Ajijic last year, though, has been an absolute blessing. :)

I was speaking of Guadalajara, not the beautiful Lake Chapala area.
Opposite sides of the coin.

Shows how much Lakeside really benefits from the Lake and its mass of  water.  Cooler in summer, Warmer in winter. We are very lucky campers folks! We have the advantage of living lakeside and going to Guadalajara within an hour in our air conditioned cars. Food, Culture, Neighborhoods all waiting to entertain us in Guadalajara.

Many many worse places to live in the world than Guadalajara also!  Its a nice Latin version of a Europa city in my opinion.

I would take Guadalajara over P.V. or Cancun any day even considering the ocean slainte39.

The heat will be gone in a month or so,the traffic is here to stay.
Personally I like living in Guadalajara for the ambience,it's vibrant and there's lots of tacos de ojos!

That's what's driving my looking at it.  I've visited, only for a short period, felt very happy the whole time, nice blend of being a city with energy and variety (versus a town) but not too much of a city - it certainly doesn't feel like millions live there (except when you get stuck on a public bus in a traffic jam).  I'm not in general a, "Oooo, look at the amazing old architecture" type, but when I was there, I did some ooooing.   Final point, they haven't had the exposure to boorish NOBers to the point that they first assume if you're white, you're a butthead (which seems to be the case all over PV, for example).

The mystery is, what is it like to live there, as opposed to just visit? Do you "find your peeps" including locals - how much of a struggle is it?

Right on C, about the "tacos".....plus with seis nietas there , I have  to love it.
Every thing you could want is probably there somewhere.  My favorite time to be there is after sundown this time of year, less heat, less traffic.  Great shopping, great restaurants, great entertainment, great history and culture, great people.......
What the hell am I doing here? Very Happy
