Word of appreciation Empty Word of appreciation

Post by floridaze Tue Jun 14, 2016 10:09 pm

This weekend my wife and I will walk across the Mexican border to begin a new chapter of our lives of living in Lakeside. We would like to express our gratitude to this forum, the local bloggers (like Juan's), and yes TOF, for sharing their information, opinions, and observations of the area. This has gave us some confidence and knowledge to believe that we can make the move. We did visit last year and found the area very beautiful and possibly liveable. We have been following your post for years. At the risk of sounding vain, we have done away with 99 per cent of our belongs including our home, said goodbye to many family members and friends and to the area we have lived most of our lives at, retired early and two weeks later leave the country. We are very excited although it is a major life change for us! We will apologize in advance if we post most probably redundant newcomer questions in the future. Among the many things we need to do to get settled, one of the most pressing will be to secure a long term dwelling. It would be nice if we had a couple leads when we arrive. So if you know of a decent 1-2 bedroom place in Chapala, for around $8000MXP, please PM us. Will post more detailed request in the WANTED subject topic after we arrive. Thanks again.

Welcome!!! Getting rid of every thing and starting fresh is very liberating. We did the same thing. Moved down here with 3 piece's of luggage, one dog and a bank card. Unfortunately, we now own just as much stuff as we liberated ourselves from back home.....jaja.

Best of luck to you both.
No need to apologize for redundant questions, that's what this board is all about.
You can meet lots of good people who will be of great value to you during your transition on this board.
It's kinda like a big family, you may not like everyone, but it's still familia.
Buen suerte

Good for you, folks, and welcome. We brought it all (lol) and I can't say we regret it, but I admire the "start from scratch" people for their courage.

You should easily be able to find a place in the 8000 peso range. Aside from bulletin boards and roaming neighborhoods, there are some good property management businesses with nice rentals you can check into. Hotel Perico in Chapala has inexpensive temporary suites while you're looking and there are many B&B's in the area. Google away, and you will be rewarded with many choices. Good luck on your new adventure!

Welcome Floridaze. You can find a large, beautiful home in Chapala for 8000 pesos a month and very nice homes for less than that. Don't be shy. Talk to people wherever you go and tell everyone what you are looking for. Also, spend time driving and walking around to get a feel for neighborhoods that seem right for you. This is the best time of year (low season) to be looking for longterm rentals. Best of luck and have fun.

Floridaze,
You will experience some pain in just a few days, so be prepared for it. The attack comes on slowly and radiates from just below the eyes, into the cheekbones. From there, it may even progress to the acute stage and be felt in the jawbones. Unfortunately, there is only one cure: Stop smiling and grinning so much !!!!!

haha That's cute, RVG, and so true.

Bienvenido a Mexico, be safe and have fun. Also be advised the first year you will spend a lot more money than you will after that.
