No, A close family member has pancreatic cancer stage 5, and her daughter has cancer too. Just upset! And a very close friend is dying too.. I wish I didn't care but I do!

I can't make them well..

They weren't smokers or drinkers. They're good people, it just pisses me off!

They did everything you're supposed to do.. it's not fair..  I don't know what I can do.. I'm here if they need anything..

I offered anything and everything all they need to do is tell me or ask.. Sometimes it's better to let them do their thing. I don't want to intrude...

I just feel lost and normally I know what to do and do it.. this is different it's too close...

I cried most of the night and grown men aren't supposed to do that.

What do I do? Any ideas?

Well said slainte, thanks for defining the sympathy I' m sure we all feel.

Cancer is a first class Bitch all right. Please fall apart later but, in the meantime, do all that you can to make them comfortable and do things to stop them from dwelling on their misery. Tell a joke, play the fool, buy groceries for them, cook for them, clean for them. Just hold their hand and talk about memories. Don't wait for them to ask.

So sorry you're going through this. Feeling powerless/impotent when someone you love is in serious danger - whether disease related or caused by something else - is the worst feeling I know.
