iPad update

Posting for a friend for obvious reasons.
My friend tried to update their iPad, update 10.something, and unplugged before the update was completed.
Now there is a black screen with an iTunes icon in the center, the charger symbol with an arrow pointing to the iTunes icon and no response. They've tried cold reboot multiple times, using different outlets and two different charger cords all with no response.
Any ideas before heading to Benno's?
