John Keeling restaurant guide Empty John Keeling restaurant guide

Post by keithsc Fri Mar 10, 2017 9:19 am

A friend has asked me to locate a copy of this guide, if possible. It is no longer in stock at Diane Pearl, LCS, or SuperLake. Any suggestions as to where I might be able to find one? Thanks.

That was my question too, why do they want it?

At one time it was probably feasible to publish a restaurant guide yearly but these days restaurants come and go constantly and it seems it would be out of date before it finished printing.

Thanks for the responses - I was asking for a friend, have advised said friend that the out of date guide is essentially of no value.

Your friend can read current restaurant reviews on these forums or he can ask about a specific one.

Good practical suggestion, Bob. Just off the top of my head, I can name a list of restaurants that are no more, are new, or have changed location.
Listing people's current favorites would be helpful. I'll start with a few of mine:

Cocinart, on 16 de Septiembre in Ajijic: new in the last few years. International dishes; weekly specials. Fresh, skillfully prepared. Reasonable prices.

Guacheria, on the Careterra, lake side across the side street from Panino's. New; replaced Italian place. Excellent, generous sized sandwiches as well as burgers, steak and salad. Meats tender; barbequed. Very reasonable prices.

Tabarka: Ajijic, on Ramon Corona. Moved from West side in January 2017. Delightful garden setting. Specializes in fresh seafood, but also has chicken, pork and beef. Lots of tapas. Spanish style cuisine. Excellent. Reasonable prices.

We do need a new "Restaurant Reviewer" like what ole "Johninajijic" used to do. If anyone is up to the task please let me know and I will grant you moderator privilege's in the Food section.

Thanks for the complimentary nomination.....but I decline to serve. You have good taste, IMO, so how about you?

I would, for the public good, require a driver and, for my good, an expense account.

Me thinks that being a restaurant reviewer on a forum at Lakeside would be..... a disaster waiting to happen.

Nah, we have had a few "restaurant reviewers" come and go. Of course John was the most prominent. It needs to be someone who eats out a lot, likes to try new places all around the lake, likes to write and has a thick skin to take it from those who may disagree with their review. If they can garner a following they may even end up getting a few "comped meals" by restaurants wanting a review.

" likes to try new places" is the catch, since it means the ''reviewer" doesn't get the benefit of someone ELSE trying them first and culling out the losers.  Let's hope some brave diner steps up to the "plate".

I prefer going to TripAdvisor for restaurant reviews. That way, you get up-to-date reviews, some local and some tourist.
