Lake Chapala as Eden
Usually in March I am in the Chiapas Highlands at 7,000 feet before returning for the summer at Lake Chapala when the clammy summer torrents in Chiapas make the Lake Chapala área, with its more reasonable precipitation, more attractive. However, this spring my housesitter who also takes care of my 5 mutts, became ill and was unable to to fulfill her housesitting duties so I stayed here at the lake. As it is my custom while here to walk the Ajijic Malecón daily with one of my mutts , I have been walking that malecón each day in March and I am blown away. The lake during March, a season with which I an unnacustomed at Lakeside , is splendid with almost constant winds or breezes presenting crystal air and exciting lake turbulence - a gift of nature for The Dawg. Certainly the malecons in Chapala, San Antonio and Jocotepec benefit from the same breezy phenomena and the Chapala malecón is quite attractive but the Ajijic Malecón abutts my property so that has become my favorite strolling destination. If you see a really handsome guy with a truly ugly dawg walking the Ajijic Malecón any given morning, a casual greeting would be appropriate.

As much as I love you, CB, and that is an Alabamian addressing a (shudder) Canadian, Dawg will not be seen upon the ´boardwalk¨prior to, at the least, 10:00AM and preferably 11:30AM with my mutt Lalo so go about your lonely way having arisen in the predawn hours for reasons compelled by your Presbyterian need for personal suffering in order to achieve self-aggrandizement and Dawg will stroll therereabouts at a more reasonable hour.
Re: Lake Chapala as Eden
Glad to hear you're getting out and about, Bubba, and I agree about those hours.
However, as summer weather approaches, there's something to be said for being an early bird.

Sorry, I thought you were from Alabama (originally or recently). No harm intended.

At about 7:30 when I walk the malecon with no dawg, the sunrise over the lake is spectacular.
This year at that time we have seen a double rainbow stretching across the lake from south to north and saw the volcano erupting behind Mt Garcia. It is the best time to be there.
At ten o'clock it will soon be uncomfortably hot.

Yes, indeed, NoVaDamer, an Alabama boy but spoiled by Paris, San Francisco and, as of late, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas. However, in honor of my youth on the Alabama campus at Tuscaloosa during the 1960s, ¡ROLL TIDE!
Forgive my rude rejoinder. One must not take Southerners too seriously all-in-all.

Well, said, Shana. I still must sleep in - my loss.
I must say, however, the malecons at Chapala and Jocotepec are worthy of arising early as well to stroll. In the more intense urban environment of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, my morning stroll takes me from the splendid Ex-Convento past the cathedral to the end of the commercially active andador and a well-deserved cup of espresso; perhaps with shot of local rum - the storied appelation of Chiapanecos.

Would that be the Burger King in San Cristobal across the andador from the bar with tables outside where one can indulge in cheesewhoppers and rum and coke al fresco? See you there CB.

That's quite a resume, bubba. I am a hoosier by birth, but came here via Wuerzburg, Germany and an extended stay in Northern Virginia. Hope to run into you sometime and trade stories!

That would be my pleasure. We live in Ajijic on Lake Chapala and in San Cristóbal de Las Casas in the Chiapas Highlands. Nuestras casas son tus casas (or something like that).
