Guadalajara downtown hotels
Hubby and I would like to spend a few days in downtown Guadalajara. We would like to stay at wonderful hotel where we can walk to some of the historic sites in that area.
Please, we would welcome any suggestions (or experiences) in that area.
Thanks so much,
Barbara

Just a thought on this: It's hovering around 90 degrees daily right now in Guadalajara.

Re: Guadalajara downtown hotels
Last June we stayed for 2 nites in the Hotel Mendoza, which is just a short block from the northern end of the central plazas. It is an old hotel, being renovated one room at a time, they were only using the renovated ones, and hopefully all the rooms are finished by now;) Rooms overlook a nice pool, and best of all, there is a decent restaurant inside the hotel, so you don't have to go out for food! It was warm, but we mostly did the museums in the morning and relaxed in the afternoon when it was hottest. It was possible to walk most of the area in a little shade.

I would use Booking.Com to get the best deal. They have reviews and show locations. I have found very nice hotels (4 & 5 star) in both Guadalajara and PV during prime time (right around Christmas) for under $50 per night.

Many of my friends like a hotel on the plaza, I think it's called Hotel San Francisco. Inexpensive and good location. Get a room off the street. Somebody will probably chime in if that's not the right name. Also, I think they advertise in the back pages of the GR.

Hotel Plaza San Francisco
Nice enough, a little dated. Be careful if paying by Credit Card they have a nasty habit of double charging. Pay cash and you'll be fine.

My partner and I, and another couple stayed at the Casa Pedro Loza on New Year's Eve, right in the heart of Guadalajara Historico. A beautiful old mansion, with many different boutique-style rooms. It was the perfect spot for walking to everything, the cathedrals, the theatre and other historic buildings. Loved it!

We stay at the Morales whenever we are on tour in the centre of GDL. It is a colonial style 4 /5* hotel. They have pool, gym, etc and are located only 3 blocks from the cathedral and all the central squares.
The staff are always very professional and helpful. the rack prices are quite high, but looking on hotels.com or a similar site will get you a decent deal.

++++ 1 for Hotel Morales. Beautiful place. Walking distance to classical Guadalajara.

For my $.02, forgo charm and quaintness and stay at the Holiday Inn. Very central and has all the amenities that make you comfortable.
