Change or weather.

Tonight marks the beginning of the rainy season for me. You can fuss about how much and how often going forward but tonight was a sea change in the weather and the start of a new season.

All I know is it feels wonderful.

And yet, I'll need to contact the local weather expert to understand that no, there's no indication of monsoonish flow, or whatever, and that I should continue to feel miserable.

I am feeling blissful right now.

This is the run-up to the rainy season which won't start until around June 10 or later.

Yep, rain is rain. And it was glorious!

Might be a wet season, saw something about hurricanes last night (have to look it back up) but they are predicting a significant amount of Atlantic hurricanes which we normally get a lot of rain from and often causes them to open the dams up country.

What is rude about saying that we know it is not the official start of the official start rainy season but we don't care? Why so sensitive? I found your wording rude but did not point that out because it is just how it struck me. The comments were about how wonderful the rain felt. Can't you just enjoy the rain and break in the heat?

Out in West Ajijic, we only had a sprinkling of rain that lasted for maybe 5 minutes! Just barely got the concrete patio wet.

The current crop will argue about anything; absolutely anything.

Well if it rains 3 more times in the next 6 days then it may meet our contest criteria.....

Sorry you missed out on the rain. We got pounded, and it was wonderful.

Loved the huge downpour, but our power in Ajijic Centro went out at around 10 pm and didn't return until recently. Since it was 90 degrees at bedtime, I would have been nice to run a fan.........but momma nature rules.
The odd thing was that there was no rain whatsoever predicted.

I understand that the main thansformer blew, along with 2 smaller ones, which rendered us powerless.

I looked at Weather Underground at about 7:30 and they were predicting 40% chance of rain prior to midnight. We got 0.24".

Which Atlantic hurricanes dropped a lot of moisture on Jalisco in 2016?

I read they are predicting 11 hurricane's in the Atlantic and 16 in the Pacific. I would think the Pacific hurricane's cause most of the additional rainfall in our area.

Everybody, put last night's rain out of your mind and know that it does count.
Up north some times people think a new season begins with the first snowfall, called winter, but of course the purist will say not so, because it isn't the 21st of Dec.
Too bad that new people have to be told that rain isn't rain or that it doesn't really count because of......well you know why.

It seemed like last year most of the Atlantic hurricanes turned north to the US Gulf States or the US Atlantic seaboard.

Well, here in West Ajijic, if that rain was supposed to count as the beginning of the rainy season, then we're going to have the driest rainy season EVER!  I probably use more water to brush my teeth than we got out here last night!

That definitely didn't count as the beginning of the rainy season!

We had a deluge in SAT. Gully washer. High winds, thunder and lightning. I noticed the dark clouds earlier coming from the east and thought we might get something out of them and we sure did.

Clete, I don't remember any significant Atlantic hurricanes dumping on us last year but I think they filled the dams and the lake benefited from them. I could be wrong tho. . .

I thought that too for a long time but last few years I've heard different. They say the Pacific hurricanes are prone to head north skirting the coast or striking Baja and the mountains between here and the coast block most of the storms. The Atlantic storms have a clearer shot, or they head up north which leads to full reservoirs and then they open the dams and the lake rises.

I don't know for sure, how can we find out.

Hmmmm.......well it seems to me that every pacific hurricane that came anywhere near the coast dumped significant rain on us. I don't know of any from the Atlantic or Caribbean that did.

Sue, you will learn that the rain here varies greatly from area to area. You can get 4" in Chapala and sunny skies in Ajijic or vice versa.
