Vein finder
VeinViewer allows physicians to see beneath a patients skin. It projects near-infrared light that's absorbed by the blood and rejected by the surrounding tissue.

Re: Vein finder
I'll trust my index finger thank you. A vein that you can get a needle into has a bouncy texture to it. It's an art form that comes with practice. Quite honestly, Physicians are not usually very good at it... give me a trained phlebotomist any time.

Re: Vein finder
The ones at the lab by Dermika are really good at it and I have terrible veins. They hit it perfectly the first time.

Re: Vein finder
If you know your A and P, you know where the veins are. They"re all in the same place, some are more visible or palpable than other people's. People who are obese or have very dark skin color are a challenge, but their veins are anatomically in the same place as everyone else.
Docs normally don't start IVs or draw bloods, nurses, paramedics, lab techs and phlebotomists do.
Maybe it would be useful looking for blockages or narrowing or something when evaluating compromised circulation if there was no Doppler. Wonder how deep you can see with it. . .
