Vote on makeover for Ajijic highway zone Sunday August 27
Public voting will take place Sunday August 27 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Ajijic Plaza. There will be 2,000 ballots available. Any one can vote age 14 and older regardless of place of residence or nationality. You will need to show a Mexican voter I.D. OR any proof of domicile. You will be required to write your name and address on the ballot and mark "si" or "no" to indicate if you agree with the government project or not.

Good grief!! If you weren't among the invitation-only guests at the info meeting at LCS, how is one expected to vote intelligently. Oh wait, this is something dreamed up by the current administration in Chapala to LOOK like something democratic. Of course, we all know that the powers that be will do whatever they want to do despite how the "vote" goes. This is to help with getting a Pueblo Magico designation that Ajijic doesn't deserve. What a waste of money when the designation is declined as it was in Chapala, and the carretera stills needs to be widened to accomodate all the tourist and new gringo traffic. This Presidente of Chapala is such a joke. Can't wait until he is gone; but who will replace him and be better?

This year it is so crowded and the seasonal people are not here yet. It will be very difficult to navigate north lakeside when the snowbirds return.

Was anyone able to make it to the voting today? What was the general consensus?

They should vote to build a bypass along the mountainside from the libreimento to West Ajijic like they did around Jocotepec. Hell, carry it right along to join up with that Joco bypass with on/off ramps along the way.

CanuckBob it does seem as though the mountain solution would be best all around. Oh well.

We went through this same debate maybe 12 +/- years ago. And the best solution then was building the road along the mountain. But nothing happened.
One of these years they will decide to do more than build a bike lane.

Right, it doesn't appear to be bike and pedestrian problems. The problem is the traffic and this is the LOW season.

Isn't that land up in the cerro ejido land??? This comes up every few years and I think that is the problem with a bypass.
Be careful what you ask for, that bypass around Joco was so poorly built that before it was finished it was already collapsing. Currently there is another problem, a lip or a large fissure - and it looks like it's on the west end area - has developed and it will cost something like 6 million pesos to fix, and Joco doesn't have the money, so they painted it white! lolol Yep. The idea is so people can see it and avoid it but witnesses say people are driving so fast up there they don't usually avoid it. Aguas! lol

Good points, and probably the best reason this couldn't work.

I wonder of some of our snowbirds will go elsewhere after the massive traffic and influx of new residents slows everything down even more than now.

I doubt it TR, if you count the birds that come for less than 6 mos. I would guess 50/50 for ownership, at the most.

Not necessarily. Nearly everyone I know who is a snowbird and rents already has their next seasons accommodation nailed down before they even leave to go back north.

Joco was built on ejido land too. You just have to pay them off or put a small toll on it. I was on the Joco bypass today. It's not that bad.

You can drive from SJC to Chapala at any time of the day and you won't even see 10 bikes using the lanes that currently exist.

I live close to the ciclopista and see lots of working people on bikes commuting. More men than women, of course. But lots of teenagers, too.

Oh yes, lots and lots of folks use the ciclopista on their bikes around SA and east.

Well I stand corrected. I certainly don't see many people using the bike lanes (on bikes). I see them riding elsewhere.

Because there is no ciclopista through Ajijic?
