Keyed car
I'm so upset, I could spit nails!!!! Our new car, less than a month old, was keyed on the driver's side today outside our front door in Chapala. I can't think of any reason for someone to do this. ARRGH!!!!

Re: Keyed car
It has been ajijicized. Bound to happen, even if you don't park on the street. Just be thankful you still have your outside mirror.

Usually, pure vandalism or jealousy over perceived ostentatious wealth, unless, of course, you have a "feud" going on with someone.
Stolen mirrors mean theft and a thief.

Re: Keyed car
Last time I bought a new car (in Canada) I told my (now, ex-) wife that I should take a hammer out and hit it - just to take the "shine" off it. THAT very night the thing got sideswiped.
It's a car. Get over it.

Sometimes we unknowingly violate a custom or rule we had no idea existed. Some people are much more easily offended than others and have few scruples when it comes to what they perceive to be evening scores. Hopefully this will turn out to be simply a random act of vandalism, never to be repeated.

Re: Keyed car
I have a new car that is only a few months old and as of today have two bumps/scratches. Oh well, it's just a car and down here it is like bumper cars. And cheap to fix when it starts looking like a beater.

Re: Keyed car
Don't think it was caused by a slight or an unintended offense as we've lived in Mexico over 20 yrs.....one neighbor lady thought it might have been caused by some kids from a house in the 'hood as they are rather uncontrolled by any adults. I've sucked it up but still not happy. Hopefully most of it can be buffed out.

Your neighbor is most likely correct. Random and senseless vandalism by anonymous punks. Sorry it happened to you.

Re: Keyed car
Sorry this happened to you. We originally arrived with our mint condition US car. Within a really short time, it was broken into, then just plain beaten up by the conditions here, parking, driving, etc. The car is now back in the US.
When we purchased a Mexican plated car here, we decided it would never be a new car, and preferred one that looked bad on the outside, but mechanically sound and in good shape on the interior. It seemed pointless to us to acquire a new or new looking vehicle. Now, we just blend in.
We will never purchase a new car for someone else to ruin.
