ISO Knowledgeable Home Theater Person

I have decided to make the leap to a home theater setup. I have been reading and looking at receivers. I have a tech background but this is truly like trying to take a sip from a fire-hose. The number of models available across the model years is astonishing. Trying to narrow this down to one model is harder than I expected and it is not helped by the lack of standardized terminology across manufacturers.

So if you read about this stuff just for fun and have assembled some of these systems, you are the person I am looking for--I am offering some compensation but we can work out those details. Thanks in advance.

If no one comes forth, I have another suggestion.
Ajijic Electronics set up mine and it works very well. Placement of speakers and the size of the area placed in, makes installation vary accordingly.  As you say, it is frustrating trying to figure out what will get the best results. Awfully hard to get it right when dealing with a one off endeavor.

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't realize that AE could help with equipment selection. This is the part that I am finding most difficult. I am comfortable with the set up and placement issues. If there is anybody out there who finds this part of the process fun. I would love to talk...
