Re: crockodiles
Well I think the water temperature, air temperature (November to February) and lack of proper breeding grounds isn't conducive to a crocodile colony a few that are dumped in may survive. I'll believe it when I see the pictures.
They may have a run in with the manatees though.......

Re: crockodiles
There are freshwater crocs too although they are usually close to the salt water. There are caiman in Aguamilpa (lake North of Tepic) which is quite far from the ocean.

I suspect that if there is anything like this there, it would be alligators and not crocs.....

Actually, I was told this morning by a Mexican employee of LCS that an article in Pagina mentions
two alligators being seen in the lake. Don't remember the size of the larger but the smaller was about two feet...

Here it is:

ENGLISH - sorta:
Chapala and avoid entering this body of water, after confirming the presence of at least two crocodiles that were discovered in recent weeks and that is dangerous for people who may be victims of an attack.
It was the Port Captain himself, Luis Jorge Ochoa, who released this information, after receiving the report that one of the crocodiles almost one meter long was seen last April 3, in the tule area, next to the island of Jesus Pescador, and one more in the area of the La Floresta Yacht Club by a sports fishing practitioner.
In none of the two cases were captured by the people who saw them, because they managed to escape, added Ochoa, who will request the intervention of the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), a who are responsible for searching and capturing those animals.
He said that as a National Maritime Authority dependent on the Secretariat of the Navy, Navy of Mexico (SEMAR) does not have the responsibility to deal with this type of animals, but to ensure the safety of the people and of the vessels that carry out activities in Lake Chapala. be it nautical tourism, fishing or recreational.
"We are not fishing crocodiles, that does not concern us, but we do have to alert the population to be very careful, not to go swimming, because there are crocodiles and the authorities will take the corresponding actions such as CONAGUA, SEMARNAT, to whom it is up to search and capture those animals. "
It supposes that the animals could have entered the Lake of Chapala by the Lerma River, there by Jamay, where is the mouth of the tributary and where a female could have entered that already laid its eggs and have begun to reproduce, since one of The crocodiles that were seen were approximately 60 centimeters in length.
"So far we have not heard from anyone who has been attacked by these animals, fortunately not, but we do want to tell the population that extreme precautions, that they know there is danger and that they should have knowledge, because there is no to hide the information. "
In an interview, Ochoa said that it would be convenient for Chapala City Council to "look at" the tule area surrounding the island of Jesus Pescador, now with the alert, to remove it, so that the animals can easily detect and prevent it from becoming a breeding place for this type of reptile.
For his part, the President of the Cooperative Society "Immortal Warriors" of Chapala, Juan Silva PĂ©rez, confirmed the above, when mentioning that one of the crocodiles was seen by two boatmen on the island of Jesus Pescador and the other by a practitioner of sport fishing last March 27, who is known and his friend.
He reported that the tule area is revised every day with the hope of finding it and catching it with some cast nets, to avoid it being a risk for the population and for visitors, "but our objective is to capture it, not kill it, because they are animals that can be returned to their natural habitat. "
He mentioned that the Port Captaincy was informed and also the Ecology Department of the City Council will be notified, so that a capture plan can be drawn up, including the fishermen from Chapala and from the riverbank who tend their nets in which the animals could get trapped.
He considered that if the intention is to keep the tule that exists on the island of Jesus Pescador for nesting of local and migratory birds, then it should be administered properly, "because if it is allowed to grow, as it has happened, this is going to be a chaos, because the crocodiles have certain characteristics ".
In an interview, the President of the Cooperative Society "Immortal Warriors" explained that the ecosystem seen in the area is favorable for the crocodiles to nest, since there is a shallow depth around the island of Jesus Pescador, in addition to the climate and the temperature.
Fifteen years ago, the Harbor Master's Office and City Council authorities confirmed the existence of crocodiles of different sizes in Lake Chapala, without being able to be captured. One was seen on September 28, 2003 in the vicinity of the Isle of Scorpions and another on October 3 of the same year, on the beach of San Nicolás de Ibarra.

Africa is full of crocodiles in fresh water lakes and rivers, like up and down the Nile. Â Never saw or heard of them in the Mediterranean, which is salt water or other ocean locations. Â I think their habitat is fresh water in Australia too.

Re: crockodiles
We have fresh water crocs in Chiapas..in the river in Chiapa de Corzo, people swim there too.. also on the river bordering Guatemala..People swim there too and in some of the lakes.. the indigenous say they do not attack but I do not want to test it.. My nephews wife has a phobia about them and we were on the water in Naha and there they call them lagartos so I thought they were talking about lizzards walking back to the hotel the guide showed us a nest and by the size of it we realize it was a crock´s nest..my niece almost had a heart attack at the idea we were in a light boat floating around with the crocks..

You are right, but apparently there are both:
PEOPLE ALSO ASK
What is the difference between freshwater and saltwater crocodiles?
The most easily noticed difference between the species (besides size) is the shape of the head and teeth. Freshwater crocodiles have longer and thinner snouts, with a straight jawline, and all their teeth nearly equal in size. Saltwater crocodiles have a broad, powerful-looking snout, with an uneven jawline.

Re: crockodiles
Some crocs go back and forth between fresh and salt. The ones in and around San Blas can be found down in ocean and miles up the river. I still didn't think they are native to this elevation in this part of Mexico.

No, they're not native they must have got away or were let loose.
I think those crocs in La Manz do that. I always thought that pond was freshwater and those crocs do get out of there and go down the beach. Especially after storms when they can easily cross the road. Creepy.

Re: crockodiles
There are a few large crocs swimming around in the Marina Vallarta inlet too. They have tried relocating them back to the river but they keep returning.

Those crocs always return to the estuary which is fresh water. Same with the ones in the laguna de Tule between Barra de Navidad and Melaque.

Out of curiosity, I looked up how male crocs fertilized female crocs. Different than I thought, and interesting reading. Google The subject above. It makes good reading.

The eggas would not be hard to collect, they are piled up and covered with dirts. Last time I was in the llacandon a guide sowed us a nest and it we could have gotten eggs without any problems.. we think....

Re: crockodiles
Crocs like fresh/brackish water . If they venture into salt water they soon return to their fresh/brackish habitat. The water in the croc pool in La Mazanillia is fres/brackish....Not salt.
