SAT Fiesta
We are suffering at my house. Dog and cat spending mornings and nights under the beds. The cohetes sound louder and the music seems to go on longer than usual. . . have about another week to go.
The dog has been kept medicated but we ran out last night so I went to see Dr. Pepe today and he said he was out too, thanks to the festival in San Antonio. Pepe went through the bottom of a pill box and found 2 tabletas. We split them.

HAHAHAHA I needed that.
I'm not a rookie, this is my 8th fiesta. After a bad night last night, I discovered a new papel picada banner strung across the street RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I had visions of the cohetes being fired off in front of my garage tonight and freaked. Went to visit my neighbors, the trabajadores, and talked to avwoman in the Delegado's family. Every one of them promised me no cohetes will be fired off at the shrine next to my house. PROMISED. yeah I know
Vamos a ver.

Do you have a thunder shirt for Louie or does that not work for him?

Re: SAT Fiesta
I've never tried a real thunder shirt but I've used ace bandage tightly wrapped and a tight t-shirt, did help a little. Thanks for reminding me I will try it again. It's so hot tho . . .

Re: SAT Fiesta
I saw the priest and a group of people and a band heading your way a couple of nights ago. I thought, "Oh no, they are going to create more noise around TR's shrine". I have given melatonin to my two scared dogs. It seems to help some. 1/2 tab for the little ones first thing in the morning and another in the afternoon for the evening cohetes.

I know of some pet owners who give Benadryl to their pets, (my vet does not recommend that).
No clue how to dose either. Someone who has done this may want to chime in.

Re: SAT Fiesta
I use Rescue Remedy for minor dog freakouts and Calmivet for the real deal - like now.

Re: SAT Fiesta
I bought a thunder shirt for each of two dogs who absolutely were terrified and panicky in the past. Amazingly they work very well, the one is a picky eater and even eats better when wearing the shirt! Happily for us, not the Mexicans who like this stuff, there have been much less cohetes than in former years. I have been told that is due to the lack of money. Most of the Mexicans I have spoken with on this subject state they do not like them.
