EMT / Ambulance Service
Buenos Dias all! My husband and I are planning our retirement to Ajijic. He lived there with his parents (they are US citizens) 30 years ago. He mentioned that there was no ambulance or EMT service to speak of at the time. And if you had a medical emergency or car accident it would take possibly up to 10 hours before they would get to you.
So I guess my question is, has Emergency Response time improved? What is the average wait time for the Lake Chapala area?
Btw, regardless of Mexico's ambulance service, I am super amp'd to move to Lake Chapala!!!

Cruz Roja has had emergency ambulance service here in Chapala for as long as I have lived here or can remember, and that's a long time.
The Chapala bomberos also have ambulance service now and there are many hospitals and other ambulance service providers in Guadalajara, a hour away.

Right. Response times are normally very good. CR will take you to their Clinica in Chapala for either treatment or stabilization prior to taking you to a hospital in Guad. Know that the level of sophistication or care is not as high as in the states, tho.
We have one hospital here now, although they are not a receiving hospital for ambulances, another one scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, and another one on the way.

Re: EMT / Ambulance Service
I had to call a Cruz Roja ambulance for someone a few years ago and they were here in central Ajijic in 15 minutes. I thought that was pretty good.

Well it looks like the EMT response time is reasonable. Appreciate the info and input.

A few months ago I called Cruz Roja because I could not walk. They did a very good job. I was worried because there are 20+ steps to get up to our house. However they got me on a gurney and down all those steps to the ambulance. I'm still impressed!
