Does anyone have a good remedy for curing toenail fungus or a doctor who does. I refuse to try Lamisil again, that stuff can kill you

Thanks in Advance

Use tea tree oil on and under the nail bed (as far as you can reach) and the skin around the nail bed as well. Do this morning and evening, and keep your nails trimmed short. You should start seeing a difference in a few weeks, when the new nail growth is coming in. Keep doing it until all of the old nail is gone, and the new nail is a healthy color and thickness.

Don't laugh: Vicks VaporRub works. It takes time, but it's cheap and harmless.

My US doctor also recommended Vicks VaporRub. It is slowly working. But I have had fungus for a long time and it has worked it's way back under the skin before the nail grows out, so it is going to take a long long time to win this battle.

There is a medication you can take, but my Doctor recommended against it because it is very powerful and hard on one's body

You can buy tea tree oil at the farmacias, or at Walmart, or at health food stores.

I've tried it all to no avail. I am currently putting vinegar under and around my nail. Every time I get a pedicure it looks a little better. Keeping my finger (and toes) crossed.

How long did you use it? You have to keep applying it until the nail has completely regrown, which takes many months.

Purely anecdotal but maybe worth a try. After a very long time and several prescriptions that failed utterly, I decided to try bleach. It really was, “What the hell.” With a Q-tip I dabbed bleach along the top and under the end of the nail paying particular attention along the edges and the bottom. I did it in the morning and at night. The fungus began fading and the new nail growth was clear. This was several decades ago and never had it again. Maybe just coincidence. I do not know.

Went to a podiatrist in Chapala on Hidalgo St and he prescribed 'Funginix'. Applied it twice a day for 3 weeks. That was 7 months ago and to this date no more treatment and no more fungus.

I still have plenty and happy to share, no charge. Just shoot me a PM and we'll hook 'er up.

Nothing has really worked for my fungus, even Funginix. I took Lamisil years ago and it didn't work. One toe has had it since 2000 and other since 2006. Both were injured and compromised with nails coming off. I will continue with the vinegar until I'm sure it won't work. I did try something from the natural medicine seller at the Wed. tianguis that I put on cotton and stuck under my nail. I was hoping but nada. But now I have a better delivery system where I use a syringe to apply vinegar under the nail in the space between the bed and the nail. I'm hoping this type of direct application will do the trick. If only I have the correct "medicine".

I understand that it is systemic and that the treatment must by by an MD prescribing a systemic fungicide, which you must take faithfully for at least six months.  Nothing else will stand a chance of being effective, like your topical home remedies; nada.
See a good physician and follow his advice and prescription in detail.
Good luck.

The prescription medicine is very hard on a person's system. It sounds like a good idea to fix a systemic problem systemically--but unfortunately, it's not.

That could be the case. I don't knlow, but suggest a medical consultation. It really is too bad that some folks love to get pedicures; the source of such fungi, in many cases. Ugh!!!!

Again, my US Doc. said that the medicine is the best way to get rid of the fungus, but strongly recommended that I do not try this.

His solution was get pedicures and use Vicks VapoRub. He said that VapoRub would work as well as the more expensive Funginix. And that with time things would get better. He never said whether this would or would not eliminate the fungus. He said if you are lucky, it might.

Oh, and I add to what RVGRINGO said. Only get your pedicure at a medical facility. I see a technician at The "Dr. George (nail) Clinic" in Ajijic and instead of the standard 100 pesos, I am charged 250 pesos for a safe pedicure. And yes, it is much more carefully done at the clinic.

I didn't contract my fungus having a pedicure. I'm very careful and only use a shop that sterilizes their instruments between clients. I've had medical advise which said stay away from oral meds. I've used VapoRub but it didn't help. It's difficult to get it under the nail where the fungus lives.

I've never had a pedicure in my life and I have one big toe that has the fungus. I've had it for seventeen YEARS.
It did start with damage to the toe. I also will not take the oral meds because of the danger involved. Google is your friend.
Mostly I've had success with coconut oil in keeping it in check. It makes the nail softer and easier to cut. The coconut oil is also good for crusty heels (those are also a type of fungus too) and athletes foot. I never get athletes foot now and my heels are soft and pink.
It's not a cure for sure but it does help your feet stay healthier and happier. Slather on after your shower and put socks on and wear closed shoes. Do not do this if you're going to be going out in sandals 'cuz it makes your feet really slippery.

You guys that have chronic toe fungus, do you ever wear flip flops or sandals or go barefoot? Or do you always wear closed up shoes? Even in hot weather? Your feet like to breathe too.

I have only worn closed in shoes for the last four years. Have lived my life in Birkenstocks... even in Canada where my only concession to snow was to wear socks with my Birkies. Your theory doesn't fly.
