All you can go is ask. Send an email to Fransico at Isaac or go see him (next to No. 131 formerly Gaucheria and the Talavera House). chapala.ventas@isaac.com.mx Age isn't the only deal breaker - previous conditions play a major role too.

What about pre-existing conditions, like diabetes?

Pre-Existing conditions are generally not covered by private insurance providers, they can however provide coverage for the rest of your body depending on how severe your diabetes is. Only public healthcare plans like Seguro Popular or IMSS in Mexico will be able to cover pre-existing conditions.

We are mostly providers for VUMI and PA Group, but represent a multitude of providers. if you would like you can contact me personally to discuss your situation and see what options are available for you.

I just reread my post, I actually believe IMSS doesnt cover pre-existing, only seguro popular does. I also checked my list of auto deny exclusions, type 1 diabetes is not insurable, but type 2 is possible depending on your health.

If you cannot afford private insurance premuims and do not wish to try IMSS or SP then its becoming fashionable to start a GOFUND ME post...but you do need friends , lots of friends for it to be successful.

Those that cannot afford to pay out of pocket or afford insurance nor want IMSS or SP should stay home and not bother coming to Mexico. I won't be giving anything...…..

What about Plan Seguro, a totally Mexican plan. It has a graduated coverage plan over a 3 year period and the deductibles are more reasonable. It is a plan used by many well to do Mexicans in lieu of IMSS therefore it has a much larger experience pool than the much smaller pools of the NOB plans. You can get quotes at the Insurance Office that Wide Sky mentioned above and at TioCorp in Mirasol. I found there is quite a difference in plan design so a visit to both would be good.
Valerie Friesen at Blue Angel Insurance in Plaza Interlago has Best Doctors Insurance. Again is has very competitive rates but the coverage is a little restrictive. She also has access to the group plan for the same Insurance through one of the Forums here in Mexico.
Something everyone should remember is that your real annual cost for any insurance is Premium+Deductible.
There is no one best place to go. It all depends on the coverage provided for the price, the deductible, the service and your budget.

This was mentioned above, Seguro Popular is a great system in Mexico if your near a good general hospital. Let's just hope the Mexican government doesn't continue to tighten the rules for expats applying, as they started doing in the Yucatan region. Only time will tell with the new government taking over.

I thought these were Federal plans and as such, don’t those requirements apply country-wide? And how do you prove you can’t afford insurance? It will be interesting to see how this shakes out under AMLO.

These requirements are only in the Yucatan region so far, there are rumors though that AMLO will make them country wide though. In Ecuador they tried to do something similar last year, as expats were bankrupting their government healthcare plan.

Ecuador had you show social security stubs, or payroll sources to prove your income, if you did not they would not let you into the country or they revoked your visa. This didn't work out too well though due to some corrupt officials stealing a lot of money from one of the healthcare plans the Ecuador government recommended. I believe they are currently in limbo about it
