This is an interesting blog post about wages in Mexico. I can't vouch for any of the data.

An eye opener indeed. It looks like expats living on SS are flush in comparison !

Shocked

IMO, I am certain this is true. Over the years, I have asked salespersons in COPPEL, Soriano, Walmart, maids, basic laborers, etc Lakeside what their income was. It was very low.

Lakeside your average gardeners, and maids working for gringos, were making between a low of $50 per hour up to $75 per hour, depending on how much the Gringo wanted/needed them.

Other than an attorney who speaks conversational conversational English and Spanish, and gringos can relate to culturally, I think the average Lakeside attorney does better, to some degree, than the national. I know a Notorio Lakeside, from my personal experience, does very weak working with/for Gringos in Real Estate mattes. I had to pay $3,000 to #5 for a one page "fill-in-the-blanks" from.

Remember though, Lakeside is not the national average for much of anything.

Again: IMO

Unfortunately it is a catch 22. Without the low wages no businesses would even consider setting up manufacturing plants in this country. They wouldn't have nearly the level of tourism either without the cheap prices.

Businesses and tourism, IMO, differ from being an expat. It would be interesting to know what the Mexican workers are paid as factory workers here.

You are comparing Americans on the American economy with Mexicans on the Mexican economy, apples to oranges.

Point well taken, I still would like to know the hourly wage in a car factory, etc. so I can relate it to the Mx. COL, which I'm sure varies by location.

I think they may earn quite a bit more closer to the border. I'm thinking around $8 USD per hour. Otherwise most factories are probably paying minimum wage ( around $7.65 USD per day) plus benefits (medical, vacation pay, etc.).

WOW! Big difference.

What relevance is "closer to the border?"
