Re: Colonoscopies
By the way, do they have Cologuard? Supposedly only a stool sample is needed but it has to be done more frequently.

Re: Colonoscopies
Cologuard is only a test for occult (hidden) blood and that test has been around for flippin' ever. It is not a replacement for colonoscopies.
That said, I consider the colonoscopy to be very limited in the detection of colon cancer because it ONLY covers the large intestine NOT the small intestine. The small intestine is where my hubby's tumour was located and it was only discovered after a cat scan... but the five colonoscopies he had showed boodiddleysquat.
You have now been warned.

Re: Colonoscopies
Which means you need to get a colonoscopy AND an endoscopy to be thorough.
Can't answer your ? Bob, call them. Or use a big better hospital in Guadalajara. My doc, Juan Pablo Loza in Chapala, took me to his teaching hospital where the Chief of Staff GI did the procedure. Good experience - well, . . .all things considered.

Re: Colonoscopies
To be thorough yes and he had both BUT an endoscopy doesn't cover much of the small intestine if at all.
https://hypertextbook.com/facts/2001/AnneMarieThomasino.shtml
Doesn't matter which end you go from, the scopes simply don't cover the WHOLE of the intestines. So, I repeat, if you have a problem and you've had both an endoscopy and a colonoscopy which show NOTHING but your problem is ongoing, it is worth your money and time to get a cat scan done. It just may save your life.
What is the length of an endoscope?
Duodenoscopes are side-viewing endoscopes designed primarily for ERCP. They are available in standard and therapeutic versions and have variable insertion tube lengths (1235-1250 mm) (125 cm), insertion tube diameters (7.5- 12.1 mm), and channel sizes (2.0-4.8 mm).
What is the length of a colonoscope?
165 cm
We reviewed 195 colonoscopies to determine whether procedure efficiency differed with the use of an intermediate-length (135 cm) colonoscope compared with a long (165 cm) colonoscope.
In humans, the small intestine is about 6 meters or 20 feet long and the large intestine is about 1.5 meters or 5 feet long. The gastrointestinal tracts of the Chimpanzee, Orangutan, and adult human and a human fetus were studied and compared by Stevens and Hume in 1995.
https://hypertextbook.com/facts/2001/AnneMarieThomasino.shtml
Therefore, the length of the entire human intestine can range from 7.5 to 8.5 meters (25 to 28 feet).

So, I repeat, if you have a problem and you've had both an endoscopy and a colonoscopy which show NOTHING but your problem is ongoing, it is worth your money and time to get a cat scan done. Re: Colonoscopies
There may be another option, CB. We had a pt who was highly suspicious for colon cancer and didn't want to do a colonoscopy but found a place in Guad where he was able to get a non-invasive scan that showed him to be negative. That was a few years ago and he is alive and well. I'm in touch with him and can find out the details jf you want, CB.

Re: Colonoscopies
I called them and yes they do. $12K to $18K pesos. Not sure why the huge variance. Maybe if they have to do something while they are in there it is the higher price?
This isn't for me and has nothing to do with cancer.

I’m glad this was brought up because I was supposed to pick up a Cologuard this week but after reading up on it I’ll just go ahead with the colonoscopy.

Re: Colonoscopies
Dr. Daniel Briseno, Quality Care does them at SAT or for 1,000 pesos less in Guadalajara. His brother is cardiologist Dr.Hector Briseno. He completed his specialty training, then another two years, a total of 4 years in CDMX. He is smart and professional. In B.C. they would only give you a free colonoscopy if the Cologard test is positive, or have a family history.

We were quoted 20K to get it done in GDL.

Yes they do. The doctor comes in usually on Tuesdays and you make the appointment with either the admissions desk or with Dr. Garcia. Dr. Garcia will give you the script for what to use to"prep" and will make the appointment for me. The gastroenterologist speaks perfect English is very professional, will show you a one page image of your colon before you leave. Very positive experience.

Re: Colonoscopies
I use JP also; had both done in September cost about $15k but that included JP obtaining the 'yucky' stuff, driving me to GDL, sitting in on the procedure, obtaining the results and driving back. A biopsy was also taken which I then took to a lab lakeside.Trailrunner wrote: My doc, Juan Pablo Loza in Chapala, took me to his teaching hospital where the Chief of Staff GI did the procedure.
