Re: More on the virus
This new report may answer the question as to why Covid has spread more rapidly in some areas, putting to the lie the partisan BS that the blame lies with one side or the other. The virus continually mutates:
"You can see in some places it doesn't get very far and in other places it has a field day."
Scientists have been freely sharing the sequences of the virus which, like all viruses, mutates constantly. "Sometime in the middle of January, there was a change that allowed the virus to become more infectious. It doesn't mean it's more lethal," Haseltine said. "It makes it about 10 times more infectious."

Re: More on the virus
all RNA viruses mutate. Seasonal flu is nortorious for this, which is why the flu vaccine doesn't usually hit the mark. A Nobel Prize winning virologist (who solved the HIV dilemma thru his award winning research) was reported to have looked @ Covid's protein sequences and it was his opinion the virus was likely created in a lab -it had HIV sequences in it. He said as well, that since it was not a virus of nature, it would die out more quickly, not have the virulence of one born of nature. Virulence not meaning infectiousness, that is just a quality) From what I have read, Covid has proven to be 10x more infectious than other bat corona viruses that researchers have worked with to date. Different races & even men & women have different ACE2 receptors in their lungs, other organs as well. So lots of variables for the top teams world-wide to investigate. But in 2012, the SARS event, a reliable vaccine was never found.. The function of RNA in a normal body is to replicate the DNA, for new cell growth, so lots of mutation opportunity, during replication.. What I am watching more in the reports are the higher number of strokes, vascular events in young people, 20-40 y/os...

Yes, I think we all know that they mutate. This is a focussed report. And in my opinion news worth spreading, if it will help belay any of the political shitstorm that should never be a part of a health situation.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to imply? The political shitstorm is because the current health situation could have been much better handled IF those at the top had given leadership to the seriousness of the threat by acting on the advice of health officials.

Re: More on the virus
I am not implying anything. I am flat out stating that this health issue has become just one more political issue, which it most definitely is not. There has been a rising tide of mockery aimed at countries based on the number of infections, with almost no valid reasoning behind it.
The report shows that the virus mutates in different ways at different times, often quite dependent upon its location, and therefore the spread is not only dependent on the errors made with masks/lockdowns/etc.
Furthermore, it shows that no matter how much people whinge about how it got this way, it's going to get worse... and not simply because things are "opening up" too early, but because of how the virus mutates and attacks.
(The shitstorm is only partly because of the ineptitude of certain officials, and as I said before, hindsight is marvelous... but that is not part of my point. However, any blanket statement about "those at the top" as far as I am concerned is just buying into the whole mob mindset .)

Hindsight is always 20/20.
Virus' do mutate... when they have hosts. If they don't have hosts then they can't mutate as rapidly nor can those than mutate find hosts as easily.
The steps taken in China were unprecedented imho. That's what made me sit up and take notice.
All of the steps that Trump took to weaken knowledge in the U.S. by dismantling various pandemic response teams before the outbreak in China coupled with his lack of action and his attitude lay the responsibility for what is happening in the U.S. squarely at his feet. He was not prepared by his own disruptive and petty actions to dismantle everything done by the previous administration.
Billy Bob's sure as hell don't help the situation but even they would have listened early on IF Trump had taken earlier action and not poo pooed the l'il ole virus.
And Amlo is another twit. Thank heaven for Alfaro.

I appreciate any & all information, points of view that are medical, research oriented and am seriously tired of having this international health crisis devolve into a political stew that does not address the problem. It was the CDC that recommended not wearing masks. Hospitals did not stock PPE. US public health officials did not react as South Korea, Taiwan did in terms of lessons learned w SARS. How & why various USA government entities sent millions of dollars to Wuhan Virology institute in 2012 onward to do research on bat corona viruses is beyond me. SARS? Ebola? Antrax? We humans LIVE because of our microbes. Now a rogue covid bad boy is messing w our physiology, 'new normal' they say. Good thing is wasn't Ebola.
Subtle & not so subtle classism underlies health status, disease incidence & mortality stats. A culling is going on & it is related to privilege, another current topic in the news. Lakeside will prove quite the little microcosm as this thing progresses. How many expats will ride the bus now or into future? I loved riding the bus, but no more. Food insecurity? not really a expat issue. Seeing a doctor? no problem. Wait for that Joco hospital to shut down due to COVID, very bad for our mex neighbors. So where's 'it takes a village' now? I laud all that expats have done over the years, building this community into what it is, pension monies providing jobs, charities, dog ranches & now food pantries. And lovely retirement. Our local environ needs attention now more than bemoaning wouda, couda, shouda of 6 months ago NOB. Indeed ~ Billy Bob & his country-western 'protest' in Riberas awakened me @ 3am, not Mex music this time

With only 34 active cases in the whole lakeside area I would say we are still looking pretty good.
Even all of our country only has 22,000 active cases.

These are the contraindications for Decadron use...

Re: More on the virus
The MATH+ Protocol came out in April and it included methyprednisolone which is similar to decadron but the MATH+ Protocol is more extensive in scope. The British study has a very high mortality rate, much higher than other programs.

11.678, that´s what a friend of a friend told us. Reduce the number by 10% for cloudy days.
