Hi everyone. I am in the beginning stages of researching retiring in Lakeside. I'm a US citizen living in Colombia. My first order of business is to determine if I am eligible for a permanent visa. I searched, but couldn't find an answer about getting a permanent visa. My income is sufficient for a temporary visa but not permanent. Can a temporary visa be converted to a permanent visa after 4 years without meeting the income requirements of a permanent visa? Do I have other options?
Many thanks and I look forward to being a member of this community.

If I recall correctly, you may convert temp into perm without showing any further financials. Perhaps someone who knows for sure will comment.

Yes. Once you have a temporary visa, you can renew within Mexico every year. Then you can go to Permanente without leaving the country or providing further financials.
Be warned that information is for now but INM can and does change requirements without much notice. Your best bet for the most up to date information is to contact Spencer McMullen. He writes as Intercasa on both this forum and TOB (the other board). His rates are reasonable and his knowledge and experience are worth their weight in gold.
