Monster Sturgeon

This is not in Mexico, but Canuck Bob and I have fished these waters many times, not together though. A married couple booked this guide to catch Sturgeon. She hooked on to an 8 foot monster, and then her husband hooked onto a 9 footer about two minutes later. These are catch and release in this part of the Mighty Fraser, but they got some good photos and videos. Heart attack fishing. Hope you enjoy.

Yes we have. I landed an 8 footer just before I moved here about 10 years ago. Awesome experience.

Used to buy smoked Sturgeon in Oregon, we RVed there a lot. A non fish lovers dream, no bones, no scales, only cartilage. An amazing freak of nature, a dinosaur fish. Similar to Haida Gwai. Unaffected by the ice age, trees, plants, fishes - like Galapogos. If this Lambda varient takes hold, I may have to visit Haida Gwai for a few years. Internet? Amazon? I have no idea. Huge Salmon and Halibut. Every shell fish, while the lower west coast is wiped out. The whole island is 2,500 residents, mostly native. They have a hospital. Currently under quarantine, essential visitors only. I don,t know what this has to do with Mexico or Sturgeon - Oh well!

The book to read/order about Haida Gwai is " Haida Art" by George F. Macdonald. What a fascinating true tale, while the Mayans were in Mexico and Central America, the Haida controlled the West Coast ( Eastern Pacific) all the way down to San Francisco. Their giant war canoes, only available from the giant trees in Haida Guai gave them a huge advantage. Their warriors raised on a rich seafood and vegetable diet, were also formidable. The main weapon was a block of stone, with a hole in it, which was tied to a cedar rope. The Haida could toss harder and further than anyone, after many years of practise. The Haida actually successfuly captured and ransomed a U.S. war ship.
