Yup. Got another 1.2 inches last night. July rain is now above the average.

We got 1.11 overnight in Ajijic Centro. Glad to have it overnight rather than around 8am as the previous 3 days!

Considering the awful weather in the U.S. and Europe, isn't it great to live in a mild climate with enough rain.....mostly at night!!!

I think the "mostly at night" part is turning into a myth. Every year we seem to get more and more cloudy and rainy "daytimes".

Re: The rain us back,
I love the daytime rains, especially early mornings with overcast skies until noon or so.. aka Pacific Northwest times. Affects the populous too - slower morning gear-up noise, less energetic people, under covers as long as possible. Our now burgeoning lakeside population needs a daytime timeout more than ever. Not perhaps the caliber of a 'snow day' mind you, but melancholy reverie of before times, water in all its glorious forms (including a cup of hot tea)
I remember one post-storm afternoon in 7/15 in San Antonio Tlay - I went into the median of carreterra & took photos east & west - not a car in sight. Took 5 minutes for one to show up. Felt so lucky to be watching huge cumulus clouds roll in over the lake, standing in the middle of the road in silence.

Be careful what you wish for. I spent my life in Vancouver and could go without ever seeing another day of rain.

Re: The rain us back,
I'd had enough of Vancouver after 18 months. However, it IS spectacular when it's not raining.
The climate here is the best of anywhere that I've lived. No where is perfect but this is pretty damn close!

You wear your outside shoes in the house?
I lived on Vancouver Island for 30 years. I love the Pacific Northwest rain. It just rains too much. Would be fine if it only added up to a couple of months a year, instead of the other way around.

Re: The rain us back,
For reals - 9 months of rain in Pacific NW & I clearly understood Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and the repetitive management of muddy paws & Wet Dog.. I managed 4 years there, even bought a raincoat for my labrador . The mental stamina of people who can endure intense days of continuing pounding rain is impressive - I really noticed that particular strength of PNW'ers. Rocky Mountain dwellers don't build that same mental fortitude towards snow, resulting in 'cabin fever' aka ETOH binges & isolation versus Coffee houses & Tea affectionados, no shovel required.
An active Friday evening crowd strolling the Chapala malecon & hildago tonight - all outside tables full, taco & ice cream vendors busy, til the burst .. yea, wet dog. no boom-box cars cruising so far tonight..

I lived on Vancouver Island for 30 years and I once counted 40 days in a row when the sun never came out. Yeah, that's a drag.
When people see me gardening or working outside here in the hot, humid summer, they say they don't know how I can do that. I say it's like when I was living on the west coast of Canada- if you stay inside all day just because it's raining, you'd never get anything done.

Ah, the muddy paws. Well, at least Mexican floors are easy to clean. It's not like we have wall to wall carpeting.

Re: The rain us back,
Our dogs seem to find the stickiest black mud around, not sure how they do that in all those tall weeds where they love to explore. Oh well, they are having fun, never mind their boss complains about his back killing him after he gets through washing 8 paws!

Re: The rain us back,
Anyone who leaves down throw rugs in the rainy season is asking for extra work. It's not a huge deal when you have tile floors. Easily cleaned.

I thought the same thing. This is doubly true if you have dogs!

Re: The rain us back,
Up north, throw rugs are often used because the floors are cold in the winter. (they can be here in Mexico, too, depending on location) But here, they are mostly used as decoration, so yeah, I can't imagine why anyone would choose to leave them out in the rainy season and have to keep washing them if they have muddy paws to deal with.
I had a housesitter from hell once (she was actually nuts, which I didn't realize when I approved her- bipolar who had stopped taking her medication and I think she had fetal alcohol syndrome, too)
Two of my friends and neighbors came over to check on my place while I was gone, after I contacted them to say she was sending me crazy emails on a daily basis. They acted like they were just dropping by to say hi, but they were actually reporting back to me.
My friend said the housesitter had all my floors completely covered in towels, which the housesitter explained was to keep the floors clean from the muddy dog paws. The result of that was that she plugged up my washing machine with mud, sand, and dog hair from throwing those towels in there without shaking them out. The drain hose was plugged solid for its entire length- I couldn't even flush it out with the water hose, I had to ream it out with a piece of rebar. And when I took the filter off the back of the machine, several gallons of skanky water and another kilo of sand poured out.
