This morning's rain totalled 0.85 inch on my gauge, very heavy at times.

I find it somewhat amusing that so many expats Lakeside have rain guages they check all the time and compare levels of rainfall in their areas. Not dissing it, I've just never lived anywhere that people do that.

Probably because there are so many micro-climates around the lake. It can be pouring rain in Chapala yet clear and sunny in Ajijic, etc, etc.

I've been a weather nerd for a long time. Certified with US National Weather Service as a Spotter since 2003 when I moved to Bisbee.

It's actually similar here in Sayulita. It can be absolutely pouring when I drive through Bucerias, but when I get to Sayulita, after a 20 minute drive, it's totally dry and never does rain that day. Or vice versa. Or it's raining hard in the hills above Sayulita, sending a torrent of water down the arroyo, but in town it's just drizzling a bit.

I understand they just recently reopened the dams which is evident by the sharp rise in the level the past couple of days. Let's hope this trend continues.

With October still to come I hope we can break the rainfall record for the past 15 years.

We're on that path having already surpassed total annual rainfall for six of the past ten years,

I'm with BisbeeGal. It's been light rain since yesterday morning. We got the same 0.80 beside the LCS.

4 m2? You have a rain guage as big as a bedroom?

Rain gauge in Mexico measuring in inches???  Probably not. Unless you brought it with you 25 years ago. Maybe.

But since it keeps overflowing when no one else is getting much more than a drizzle makes me wonder. Is someone sneaking in an putting water in it to fool you? Naw... you're smarter than that.

Additionally.... having a rain gauge but not knowing how much water it holds is like having.... a thermometer but not knowing whether it is F or C. Not of much value.

Reporting how much rain you got on a gauge you have no idea whether is marked in inches or cm, is even weirder.

@rick s  I would guess many of us bought or brought our rain gauges from US or CAN or bought here on Amazon.  I have always had electronic gauges (since 2003) and they can be set for inches or Metric.  They are also self-emptying so you never get wet when reading.

I would imagine the manual gauges are marked in both inches and Metric, just like most measuring cups are??

Placement is key.....away from any eaves, downspouts or sprinklers.  Lake Level? - Page 2 1f603  Lake Level? - Page 2 1f603

It's one of those electronic gadgets that's come down in price over the years.  You don't need direct line of sight for readings.  I have my outdoor unit about 30+ feet from its indoor monitor and around a corner.

The manual rain gauge that I bought at the garden center in Riberas has inches on the left side and centimeters on the right side.

Construction tape measures here are also marked in both inches and centimeters, and cloth tape measures usually have inches on one side and cms on the other.
