CanuckBob wrote:encima en-see'-mah (adverb)
on top, above, on top of that
EXAMPLES
1. Tengo que mantener mi teléfono, mis llaves, y mi cartera en el mismo lugar encima de la mesa o los perderé.
I have to keep my phone, keys, and wallet in the same place on the table or I will lose them.
2. Aunque está lloviendo, sé que el sol aún brilla por encima de las nubes.
Although it is raining, I know that the sun still shines above the clouds.
These may very well be correct uses of "encima" but I'm not familiar with them...I would have used "sobre la mesa" (upon the table) and "arriba de las nubes" (above the clouds). Am I wrong? (wouldn't be the first time).

Re: Word of the Day
Funny, there was a post by Solovino saying the same thing but it disappeared.
I just wanted it confirmed because I hear the verbs interchanged on a fairly regular basis.
Solo also confirmed that las orejas are animal ears and los oidos are human ears...would like to know the "why" of that one.
How about my other question???

I'm not sure what happened to my prior post. I was going to edit and probably deleted inadvertently.
The orejas and oidos and animal vs human difference is found in popular usage. But technically they are different parts of the ear.

They call me patón and I don't have paws.
They also say callate el hocico but I don't have a snout. People everywhere in all languages play freely with words.
