Compulsory change to FM2?
I got a e-mail with a report of a puzzling INM action. Have you heard anything about this?
My FM3 is expiring in October after 5 years. I went to the Immigrations office in Zihuatanejo to check on the new procedure for renewal. I was informed I would have to go to an FM2 or start the whole process over again by leaving Mexico. I will then have to go to a Mexican Consulate in the USA to obtain a Visa . I then must re-enter Mexico on an FMM tourist Visa and reapply for my FM3 here in Zihuatanejo.

Re: Compulsory change to FM2?
i have an unconfirmed, third-hand report that the matter has been cleared up. The INM guy was wrong.

One more for confusion lovers. I got this e-mail tonight (Thursday).
Two days ago I went to INM in Morelia to see what I had to do when my FM3 expires in June. I've renewed it 4 times. I was told that I have two choices. 1) Go to the border, turn in my FM3 and get a tourist visa then go back to INM and apply for an FM3 as if I'd never had one (his phrase, not mine, so I guess you have to assume that attitude ass part of the process). 2) Do everything there at INM. I chose #2. It didn't include pretending I never had an FM3 and I'm a bad liar. But it's more complicated to do the online part which he said is mandatory.

Re: Compulsory change to FM2?
so, rolly, when the person in morelia says they chose option #2, do you know if that means they had to go to an FM2? i presume it does, but the wording is a little confusing.
