Nope, it's still there although largely ignored in favor of lycra T shirts and wooden pallets, go figure. Guess they're still frantically searching for nail files and crock pots.

If the Casino is built... the road will be used. If the project is stopped the road becomes a large foot path to take tourists to the top of the mountain. Either way a sure bet.

Just because we don't shake rattle and roll here much doesn't mean it
couldn't happen here. It could. Off the Oregon coast is a huge fault
that could go with an 7/8/9 anytime. You can still see at the coast
when they had the last big earthquake and the buried trees when
the land went down. This was hundreds of years ago. I imagine
lots of things waiting to happen here. In 30 years of living in Oregon
the biggest thing we felt was 4.0 or so. In 1985 Michocan had a big
quake. Faults run all over Mexico including one somewhat near us
here. It could happen.

It appears that the series of articles being run by INFORMADOR is attracting quite a bit of attention. From today's online version:
"Chapala Tourism rejects casinos

Besides the risks to build in a seismic zone, now emphasizes that bookmakers undermine the interest in the Bank model

GUADALAJARA, Jalisco (09/MAR/2012). - The construction of casinos in Lakeside opposes its tourism development model which has become even more so when one considers that the establishment of these businesses no sustainable approach, both in the environmental and culturally, says the head of the Secretariat of Tourism of Jalisco (Setujal), Aurelio López Rocha.............

Nonsense. Dawg has it on the singular authority of a local savant who has graced this burg for over a decade living in the single most exclusive residential enclave in all of North America that earthquakes do not occur in the Lakeside area and are, thus, not a factor in designing building codes or determining where structures should be located. That same savant informs us that, in an earthquake (which could never occur here), "fill" is a safe place on which to reside to avoid risk. Dawg has some experience with this having resided safely on rock solid Russian Hill in San Francisco during their big quake of a few years ago and, from my windows overlooking San Francisco Bay, I remember watching the mansions of the wealthy in that city´s Marina District, developed adjacent to the bay entirely on fill, being severely damaged with many homes consumed by the resulting conflagration and others collapsed or rendered uninhabitable and requiring extensive reconstruction. Quite a show.

I just hope that, when that impossible quake actually does occur, those houses up the unstable mud hills from my humble abode next to the lake slide down into the lake without running over and damaging Dawg´s shack while on their journey.

Since the sacred 15 minutes had expired after the above comment and Dawg, therefore, could not rectify the fact that I posted this observation inadvertently under the name of my beloved spousette, this modification on an otherwise inane comment by a follow-up posting seemed in order. I realize this corrction is of no consequence to anyone but Dawg but, indulge me as this is one of the few boards from which I have yet to be blacklisted. I wonder why.

You're right..........so that shows two things:
(1) the mods didn't banish it
(2) there were two replies, but obviously, nobody gave a damn after that.

Maybe (3) nobody in their right mind would build up there.

Personally, I hope the authorities put the kibosh on it before it causes a life and property threatening situation.

Contrary to the opinions of a certain poster, there was some considerable property damage to one particular house in lower Chula Vista which was subsequently demolished. Further damage to the municipal building did occur and presumably there was damage done to other structures which did not justify commentary. Oddly, according to the same poster who pointed out alleged ghastly soil conditions at the Raquet club produced jack squat in the way of damage, other than one very small easily rectified crack in our house. If memory serves the quake was over 6.0.

You may find this to be an amazing fact but some people actually do research before opening their mouths! Your denials do not hold water based upon the following articles:

"We don't have earthquakes in Ajijic."

Before one makes statements such as the above, you may wish to try and believe evidence to the contrary. I would venture a guess that Tony Burton has a longer tenure than yourself in Mexico and spent a great deal more time researching Mexico the you "the expert". As you so often like to point out, this discussion in about the north shore region of Lake Chapala and not Iran or the Strait of Hormuz.

Denial is a river in the Middle East. Gas prices have been high in other countries for a long time. but. U.S.A. residents whine endlessly when it goes up to half of what they pay.

The Big Earthquake in California is way overdue.......it's waiting for John to move. lol.

We can talk ourselves blue about what's going on in the states re the Middle East, but we can do absolutely nothing about it, so why waste bandwidth here. Face it: they have us over a barrel of oil.

The precarious hillside development, however, is right here, and we can at least warn anyone we know who thinks that "killer" view is desirable.

Earthquakes in the 1500's and 1800's. Who cares. I'm only gonna live another 10 - 15 years so who gives a rats arse.

Instead of talking about this crap, why don't you take more interest in when Iran is going to get the Nuclear weapon and close the Straits of Hormuz. Then I'll sit here laughing at your $ 8 a gallon gas prices and higher electric rates.
John, another crazy post, Tony Burton has probably forgotten more about Mexico than you have ever learned, why don't you go take a nap before you start bombing Iran, btw gas prices in Temecula are typically 1to2 dollars higher than in Albuquerque.

Site of Dawg´s Marine Corps advanced infantry training ordeal at Camp Lejeune where Dawg can guarantee you from time spent on bivouac in December in the 1960s, it is colder than a witch´s ass in winter. Totally wrong again about temperatures. I guess you know NOTHING about CA and NC temps. It's warmer in winter in NC than in Temecula. It's over 100 degrees in Temecula during summer (dry heat). Gringal says A/C bills are high in Temecula. They get very little rain.

NC does NOT have extremely cold winters. What are you compaing it to Florida, fer chris sakes? Ot's colder in almost every other state than NC. Example, Texas, NM, AZ and Tennessee. Winters are much milder than New England. There is little to no snow in NC, less than 5 inches.

"North Carolina's climate varies from the Atlantic coast in the east to the Appalachian Mountain range in the west. The mountains often act as a "shield", blocking cold temperatures and storms from the Midwest from entering the Piedmont of North Carolina.[1] Most of the state has a humid subtropical climate (Koppen climate classification Cfa), except in the higher elevations of the Appalachians which have a subtropical highland climate (Koppen Cfb). For most areas in the state, the temperatures in July during the daytime are around 90 °F (32 °C). In January the average temperatures range near 50 °F (10 °C).[2]"

Enough of the speculation, already. John's no.1 problem is selling his house here at a decent price.
After that, he has 50 states to choose from where Medicare is available.

Personally, I love coastal CA, but it's got problems of its own, starting with obscene property taxes, empty public coffers and very expensive property in the good spots......even after the housing bust. N.C. might well be a good alternative. Depends. I'm sure John's not going to be dumb in picking a place to settle down.

We all know we're kidding about a trailer in Barstow. How about a trailer in Slab City? Even less overhead. lol.

In Oregon/Washington we have not had a big earthquake since hundreds of
years ago. So people think we can't have a big earthquake. Well we can it
may happen in a day, year, 10 years, 50 years but it will happen. I imagine
much of Mexico is the same way if we don't get the constant reminders of
small quakes. Quakes at lakeside no..... well I am not so sure that someday
we will get hit. Looks like some fault lines right around here on the maps.
Maybe we won't see one but someone here someday may if they are unlucky.

You guess wrong, John. Dawg spent 35 years living in California making my residences in Los Angeles and San Francisco among other places in that state and traveling extensively all over that state in all seasons due to the nature of my work for some years as a national bank examiner. It happens that North Carolina is also a state with which I am quite familiar having summered there often as a youth from the coast to the mountains and having received advanced infantry training in the Marine Corps there in the freezing cold winter of 1966. Dawg is certainly far more familiar with both places than you and here is my advice:

Don´t believe everything a real estate salesperson tells you whether from they´re from Temecula or The Piedmont. However, if you must go back to the (shudder) U.S., try the Central California Coast if you can afford it. To be honest, I must admit there are some nice areas in North Carolina as well and, since you are originally from New England you should be able to handle the climate in the Carolinas.
