Mariscos El Carnal Empty Mariscos El Carnal

Post by CanuckBob Mon Apr 02, 2012 11:49 am

Being a lover of raw oysters we were taken to a restaurant called Mariscos El Carnal which is located on the west side of the Chapala/Guad Hwy about 1/2 way between the Airport and Chapala. For 60 pesos I was presented with a platter full of 14 large, fresh and succulent oysters that were properly shucked and slid out of the shell. They also had a variety of other items on the menu. If you are a lover of oysters I would recommend checking it out however you will need to bring your own horseradish...........

It is a fact...over the past 3 years, they have nearly doubled seating capacity.....plus a large play area for children...in the back.

Then one would assume it’s a kid friendly place and wouldn’t expect a quiet, relaxing evening. (probably lower middle class.) IMHO

OMG, sorry I clicked on this thread. Just what makes you an authority on the class system?

I've had the pleasure of dining there dozens of times over the past 3 years....normally between 12 noon and 3, and seldom see many children. Since I've never dined there on weekends, I assume family day might be weekends. They open @ 10:30 am and close around 7:00 pm

After slurping down an order of oysters, I'm not looking for a quiet, relaxing evening.

We went to the other Mariscos El Carnal on the careterra towards SJC (it has the rubber shark hanging outside). The atmosphere was very nice however the menu was slightly different and the dishes appeared to be higher priced. We found this out at the end when the platters of oysters, which we thought were $70 pesos each, turned out to be $200 pesos each. Wish we hadn't have eaten 3 of them. Those platters along with a couple of other main dishes and a few drinks turned into a $1300 peso lunch......Ouch.

Bob did you ask about the price difference, from 60 to 200 pesos is quite a jump considering that all the Mariscos Carnal probably buy from the same distributer.

Location, Location, Location or perhaps Tapatio prices. Yes, we visited a local place and they mistakenly had given me a Mexican menu and the prices were cheaper for the North Americans. Really surprised, had always heard it was the other way around. Maybe it’s only this place, I really don’t know. That was also back in the day when pesos were 10 to one $USD. Very Happy

I think he tried to tell us that the oysters were 60 pesos each but he was giving us a deal at 200 pesos per platter. I told him the other branch of the same restaurant up by the airport were only charging 60 pesos per platter and he just said "well that's a different restaurant"..........
