So how many of you ladies clean up before the maid arrives? This morning Candace was in a bustle, the clock was ticking, she didn't want to be late for her pottery class and I hear dishes being rattled in the kitchen. "Whatcha doin' hun?" I ask and she replies, "Just cleaning up before the maid arrives." Whaaaaa? Why? "Oh I don't want the maid to see a messy house."

There must be some underlying lady logic to this but I am baffled as to what it might be. The maid gets paid by the hour, the maid wants more work, more mess equals more work. I think Candace might have made it to class on time, not that anyone would care but what's the deal? scratch

It's not so much cleaning the house so that the maid doesn't think you're such a slob as much as it's knowing where things are!
The maid does a great job... except for putting things away. They don't always go where you logically thought they belonged. There are times when days will go by before I find what/where the maid put away.

sooo.. get a safe for all the un-maidable stuff... put that stuff away....

there.... now the maid can clean up?

***********************************************

Connie would still be cleaning....

When we have company... Connie rarely stays in one place long... always puttering around... moving coasters, cleaning ashtrays ( we don't smoke ) etc...

It used ta be funny... I just shrug my shoulders Rolling Eyes

Venus calling Mars:

The only thing I do before the maids show up (I deal with Spring Clean and that's bi-weekly) is to put the dishes in the dishwasher. You may ask. My previous maid (elsewhere) assiduously made sure the dishes were washed. Always. One time the water was off, so she was out there at the bird bath/ fountain, washing them. The current group conserves D/W soap, so there's no indication in the sponge that soap touched the dishes.

Otherwise, I'm damned if I'll clean up anything I don't have to. I don't care if they think I'm a slob. cheers

I don't clean up either other than to make sure the sheets & towels are laundered.

We don't clean up either. On the other hand, we're tidy anyway and the kitchen and the laundry are mine and mine alone.

Thanks for your responses and since we're on the subject, and it's a slow 'news' day; Candace will not eat in front of the maid or our maintenance/gardener/everything guy. What say ye Venusians? I'm sure mi Martian ermanos don't give a rip and would be happy to eat pizza and drink beer while mother Theresa washed the dishes. Twisted Evil

It used to make us uncomfortable until we realized that WE eat lunch at noon and they want to eat with their families between two and four p.m.
BUT, the coffee (la medicina) is on when the housekeeper arrives and her snack
is laid out. If she didn't have time for breakfast, she will eat then...or later...or take it home with her.
The gardener doesn't want his tea and snack until he's leaving for his next job...para llevar (to go)
We do our thing...they do theirs. It's a comfort level that is usually only achieved after several years together.

Why the protestations, Espiritu? Nobody said they didn't provide. Forcing food on somebody is rude, ya know? Lizzy Rolling Eyes

Whoa! Espiritu! Get up on the wrong side of the bed?
Each case is different and our staff here arrive at 7:30 a.m. and are gone by 9:30 a.m.
In San Miguel, Lucha arrived at 9:30 and left at 2:30...three times a week...and we all ate lunch together.
Have a coffee and stop with the hissy fit.

Dunno whether I'd recommend coffee. Espiritu seems a mite testy this morning.
How about a smoothie to mellow thing out? And perhaps one of those wonderful bagels from the shop up on the carretera in Ajijic? Yummy. Lizzy

My wife & learned about this when, for example, the maid left the cat-bed on top of the television! Mars calling Venus Lol

Also, it is advisable to "hide" breakable items; our maid dropped a candle snuffer and broke the bell off!!! I didn't even know that was possible!

In that connection, we also learned that broken items are simply placed back where they were -- and not a word said about it (unless it shatters and you happen to hear).

personally I am not saying they didn't/wouldn't provide food. yea, I did get up on the wrong side of the bed. Sorry... I always offer food and water to all worker's but that is just me.

You are right Ferret I do need more coffee, A flaming tequila laced one and a double at that. Then I'll have some beer. It has been a suck ass week and keeps getting better. Just give me strength before I choke the living sh*t out of someone who deserves it.

Wow! I do not envy you that week. Getting this out of your system is good as too many days like that can poison your soul. Got any garbage cans you can kick? It's very therapeutic. Lizzy

I think it's part of living in Mexico...Some Days are Diamonds...Some Days are Rocks.
Thankfully the diamonds outweigh the rocks...usually!
