This article from the Guad Reporter:

The Jalisco SVT transit department has announced plans to implement a weekend crackdown on drunk drivers traveling between the Chapala area and the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Traffic officers will be posted to different spots on both Saturday and Sunday to set up checkpoints where passing motorists be may required to take breathalyzer tests.

The state Congress recently enacted strict legislation aimed at reducing accidents caused by intoxicated motorists. Anyone caught behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level surpassing the legal limit may be subject to a fine of 14,000 pesos and a two-year license revocation.

The Chapala-Guadalajara highway is ranked as one of the state’s riskiest roadways. According to SVT statistics, it has been the scene of 55 accidents so far this year, with four fatalities registered to date.
