Horseback Riding
After looking at the photo on the top of the page .... Are their any place (business) that will take you on a horseback ride into the mountain?
Re: Horseback Riding
They are available in La Floresta every day. Have fun!

There is a woman who runs a ranch in Matzamitla. She has cabins so that you can stay over. She runs day trips on horseback as well as longer outings.
I don't have the information in front of me, but if that interests you let me know and I will find it.

Horse businesses that offer trail rides......
The woman who has the ranch and cabins near Mazamitla is Celina; phone number (333) 749-7730. She has good gentle horses and Western saddles, and lots of countryside to ride in.
Stephanie Decker, who lives on the west edge of Vista del Lago (this side of the lake) has 6 or 7 horses, Western saddle I believe, and wants to start doing trail rides up into the hills with one of her workers for a guide. Stephanie's home number is (376) 763-5259 and her cell is (331) 722-2213.
The horses for rent in La Floresta (and also in Chapala, east of the restaurant pier) are owned and outfitted by Mexicans - meaning they have those wooden saddles with the big round horn, I haven't ever ridden in one but they sure look uncomfortable. The horses are dead quiet and are rented out to the tourist trade, so used to unskilled riders. The guides that I've seen take the riders around the local streets, I don't know if they go up into the mountains.
We run a small boarding stable with privately owned horses. We have a Tennessee Walker available for half lease, but that's more of a commitment than you were asking about. At the bottom of this page on our web site, you can find directions to an article that Judy King wrote last year about our place. Celina's place, and one other boarding stable:

Re: Horseback Riding
Hi, I am Stephanie Decker and Rancho San Francisco is ready for groups of up to 8 riders. These are guided rides on REAL TRAILS with REAL TRAIL HORSES! Well trained, even tempered horses that will show you the back country and vistas you won't get in La Floresta! Appointments required. We can handle all levels of experience, please inform us at booking. Find us on TripAdvisor where we're#2 of things to do in Chapala.
