Well Dave: Certainly one week is really not enough. We came down 3+ years ago. I had been here some 25+ years ago and loved it. My wife had never been here.
Well as I said a week is not enough. I will be getting out of the hospice in a few weeks and I will then have enough time to look around. Every time I get fit enough to go out and look around my wife puts me back in. Make sure your wife likes it here, it's hell if she doesn't. 3 years in hospice is no fun.

I think whether a week is long enough depends on a lot of individual factors, how you use your week and how much you trust your gut instincts. I came here for one week (first time in this area). Two months later I moved down for a one-year stay and am still here five years later. It depends on so many things. Only you will know if one week is enough for you.

We have friends coming next week from Wednesday - Sunday only. They have been doing a lot of research, have never been here and have already pretty much decided to move here! Tried to tell him he needs more time, but he said he can only take that much time off from work! I can only laugh being that he plans to retire in a few months. Hopefully he will get his priorities straight after he comes to Lakeside  drunk

Thanks for all the helpful info and suggestions.
Many have suggested that we really need more time to decide which I agree with. The purpose of this trip is just a preliminary scouting expedition to see what kind of feel we get about Lakeside. If we feel it has potential then we will put it on our short list and re-visit in the future for a longer period of time. If I retire it will not be for a year or so so this trip is not about making a once and for all lifetime decision.

If anyone would like to meet up with us for coffee or a meal or such we would be happy to meet a few couples (especially Canadians) to get a first look at life as a full time retiree in Lakeside. By the way we are 61 and 58 respectively.

Cheers
DaveW

You'll enjoy visiting with Bob and his wife very much, fun people that waited, visited, and saved before moving down. Will have a lot of insight for you.
