record from sky tv

how can i record, or time shift programmes, as i think its called, from my sky tv box ?? what tec do i need.?

I used to record TV to VHS and I assume the same can done with a DVD Writer

You need to look at the sky box on the back and look for Video and Audio out using RCA Cables or an HDMI output. Your box also could have Component video out cables also these are the three color RCA jacks. Component would also need an audio out jack.  Best is component as it is analog and no security will be passed through the signal.  Next is HDMI and last are the low definition old style single video jack with audio out used again like component for sound.  HDMI is sound and video combined but won't let you copy anything copywrited like a Hollywood DVD. You could use a VCR or DVD/Bluray recorder or feed the output into a computer.  Good LUck

the only socket is for usb.. theres nothing else. its a new receiver, really small.

And that USB is probably for input, not output. I'm surprised. What about the TV back? Any other outputs?

yes am sure the usb is just for input. my tv is pretty new with hdmi, rca , etc ..but on the sky box , nothing.. in europe sky actually sold recievers to record programs, but they dont seem to do this here.

ok just looked at the sky web site. there is a receiver to record, but i need to upgrade to hd..probably wont bother...thanks anyway

Does the TV have outputs or just inputs?  If you see the signal on the TV you could probably record it from the outputs (if you have them) to a VCR or a Digital recorder. You might be blocked from the HDMI output signal as it uses digital security stuff.
