UNION AJIJIC (aka InsideLakeside Utd) win two championships this weekend

At the COMUDE tournament in Chapala this weekend, the minis won second place in their age group, the Ponies won the championship in theirs, and the big lads got to the championship final in their group. There were about 18 teams from as far as Guad. It was a sudden death tournament - one loss and you were out. Because there were six teams in each group, games were settled by lottery. With the big kids, the first team (Chapala's Charales) easily dispatched the other team and then watched while we played back to back games. We won the first game comfortably and the second game on penalties. So the final was between Charales who had been resting for two games and Union Ajijic who had to play a third consecutive game. The kids had fought so hard in the first two games and really couldn't eat anything, I was surprised they made it onto the field for the third game (not much rest between games). Charales is a very good team and overall, bigger than us. The heat and lack of food and possibly fluids got to some of the kids. Two collapsed and were carried off by the paramedics. And there had been some attrition as the kids were getting injured and carried off. And cramp was setting in. But they dug deep and fought hard and won the game 4-0 and with it the championship! The Minis and Ponies who had played at other fields had returned to the stadium, their games being shorter. After the game, they ran onto the field to congratulate the big kids. It was quite a scene. Most piled into the back of a couple of trucks (I had nine in my RAV4) and they sang and chanted all the way back to Ajijic.
