new driving laws mexico

starting last sunday 10 november, there are new laws regarding drink driving which includes a breath test, losing your licence and possibly going to jail. also you are not allowed to use a cellular phone, read maps etc whilst driving, however for me the most interesting new law states that you cannot use a gps screen unless it is part of the original design of the car..!! all info courtesy of informador.com.mx

Can't say that I am thrilled about the ban on portable GPS units. I guess you could skirt the new law by stashing the unit where it wouldn't be visible and rely totally on the verbal directions? A bit limiting but probably better than nothing?

I also wonder about radar detectors and dash cams? Neither is specified in what was reported in INFORMADOR but either might provide them with an excuse to pull you over.

I'm sure enforcement will be along the same lines as many of the other laws in Mexico. Nada.

If all the anecdotal stories about Gringos being pulled over to apply "the bite" are true, any visible gadgets simply provide an excuse.

historically these new traffic laws are brought forth just before the xmas season,in jalisco anyway.
