We have a couple of unlocked phones. Will it be possible to just buy a couple of Sims cards in Mexico to make local calls?

Yes. Go to a TelCel Store. A sim card will cost about $150 pesos. Very simple.

Just remember Vorizon phones are on a different system than AT&T phones. Mexico mostly uses the same system AT&T use. There are a couple of exceptions.

Where can we get an iPhone 3GS unlocked?
We checked at the place near the bus station in Chapala and they wanted 1500 pesos … gees, it's cheaper to get Rogers to unlock it at $50 CDN.
