CFE smart card

Has anyone had to deal with the new smart card designed for the new digital meters for CFE? The current article in the Guadalajara Reporter says it has become quite a problem. Lots of people rejecting it. Like overcharging?
How would you contest the overcharge if it happens?

What if you bought a house that it is already set up on?

It can be rescinded, but it takes several months and several trips to the CFE to accomplish....Other than that, you are saddled with the monster and at their mercy. I have some friends that just got out from being underneath it and they were ready to pull their hair out over the whole affair.

Will this become a new selling point in real estate ads:

Excellent location
Beautiful lake view
No CFE smart card meter

Both neighbors in our gated community had their power shut off the same day. They didn't even know they had smart cards, they had never seen them. Took until the middle of the next day to get it turned on. Will be interesting to see what happens with them next time the bill comes

Neil, You do not live here. What do you know about smartcards? Know more than Spencer? You are a visitor, and you are a know it all. Yes they ARE out to get people. That is why Spencer called it a scam.

Oh wow, for a second there I thought I was on TOB and reading Bennie2. Then realized I was on IL and reading 77. Huh. Wonder how I could make a mistake like that?

Interesting that the benefits on Canadian TV of this digital meter is described as the savior of the world of electricty but I guess as with any technology it depends on whose hands it ends up. HMMMM Mexico is catching up!!! JaJaJa

I have read that when you sign up for the smart card you are automatically signed up for some insurance ( read the fine print) and that is why your bill goes up, not because of an error . Also there is a $50.00 monthly fee for the card and Lawd only knows what else.

So you pay 50 pesos per month to read your own meter and go to CFE to pay your bill? Wow. and people do not think this is good deal? How surprising.   

Some CFE clientele must have been what P T Barnum was referring to.

Well in all fairness, if you had never heard of this fiasco and CFE showed up at the door explaining they had a new program that you had to sign up for a lot of people would probably do it.

I am just glad we were alerted to this.

l think everyone I have heard of that got them thought they were mandatory.

One of our neighbors here in Jocotepec found it thrown thru the gate...no one signed for it.

If the guy tell you they are mandatory just go take a picture of him and tell him to come back on Monday after you called CFE. .... Gone!
