Hmmm . . . There have already been several reported incidents of a drone flying over private yards at Lakeside and taking photos - ostensibly for "real estate" purposes. Whatever the purpose was, it was clearly an invasion of privacy. And it was clearly a case of stupidity and insensitivity in this era of justifiable angst over our privacy being invaded on so many other fronts such as phones and internet.

If you want to form a group of hobbyists who fly drones for the fun of it, which I can totally understand, I suggest you take steps to ensure that nobody in the group ruins it for the rest by flying anywhere that could be considered an invasion of privacy by anyone. I would also check carefully into the restrictions on airspace since we live in the immediate proximity of an international airport.

Finally, I assure you that if I see a drone flying anywhere near my property, I will bring it down, and if possible, reclaim it as my own.

on the tob , you said you would shoot it down !! whats changed ? do you have a permit for your gun here ?

When and where was this - I must have missed that class.
If you want privacy, you picked the wrong planet. About 3 years ago Google launched a private satellite camera which flies 423 miles above Earth, and can zoom in to the size of a baseball diamond (16"x16"). Earlier this year they announced a new technology which surpasses that resolution by many times, and stores the data in very small packages.

you can buy a micro drone for $107 - and amazon has some for less.

However, I am what one could call drone-dumb - I never realized this was a technology fad until I saw the website. Maybe someone with some real drone knowledge can weigh in on what a beginner drone costs - and what one should look for in a good drone:)

Ah yes! And so another spin begins . . . guns. . .imaginary rights. . . government drones. . .google satellites! It isn't simply a case of missing the point; it's ignoring it. Since that seems to be the prevailing mindset for some, what I want to know is where Elvis is in all of this (and we aren't talking ice skaters here, boys)? He should be here to lead the charge against those nasty, unpatriotic, Godless drone-haters!

I believe the streets in Ajijic were video taped about 6 or 7 months ago as I recall seeing a car moving slowly down the street with a camera on top. I think it was done my Google Earth

So whats the difference between a drone and an RC helicopter or plane?? We had cameras in our RV planes sometimes.

stable platform (quadcopter) but short battery life ....7 min
helicopter never got the hang of it ...always over controlling (for sale)
my 55" rc airplane is fun ...20 min and have had birds chase it ....hard to get a good video/pictures except high and wide

The big difference is that most drones have gps navigation, so they can be programmed to certain routes, automatic out of range detection and maneuvers that would be difficult to control by hand. The larger payload drones can get much larger batteries. It is a hobby which can eat up $$$ pretty fast.
