Locked topic on ToB

I noticed a topic was locked on ToB because the poster refused to give their US location. I've asked the moderator why but have not yet received an answer. Would any of the moderators on this board know why that may be an issue?

Nope, other than if the mod is trying to ban them but suspects they are masking their IP address with a proxy server.


Edit: I just went and looked at that post on TOB and it would appear that the mod there isn't aware of proxy servers or how they work......that explains a few things....LOL.

Again the question ~ What difference does it make if you know or don't know where they're posting from?
And the subject they locked... Dr Pepe and puppies? Could this take the board down or some other calamitous event?

No it makes no difference what so ever other than the mod doesn't seem to want, what he thinks is an "outsider", posting about this topic.

I think that the topic was locked while the Duran person investegated the authenticity of the Dr's Pay Pal Acct.

Good point Marty. I didn't notice that they were taking "donations".

That might make some sense. I have yet to receive a response from ToB moderator so this may be the closest I get to an explanation.

I think it was the outsider's Paypal account being used to get donations to the Doctor. That was my impression anyway so I guess they are checking to make sure the the Vet got the money before they let that person back on.

Rumors be gone! This is the response I received yesterday:

"The person posting was using and IP address in the United States yet giving the impression they lived here. When the "donation by PayPal came up and the person asked people to send a PM I then I sent them a note and asked where they were posting from at Lakeside. They said they lived in Chapala. It was obvious from their IP address they were not here, unless they were masking their IP address by using a proxy server. If it had not been for the donation of money to a PayPal address that did not belong to Dr. Pepe I would have let it slide. On top of that the person had just signed up and no one knew who this poster was. I made the posts invisible while I waited for an answer from the poster. When I pointed out they were using and IP address in the USA I never heard from them again. At that point I deleted the PayPal posts and locked the thread and set it to visible again."

Wow, that was a good thing to do, especially if the poster wouldn't reply and someone was pretending to collect money for Dr. Pepe. We have enough scams here (and everywhere for that matter).
