I was told I can be guilty of forgery if I make a copy of my immigration card.

I was told this by a Mexican business person who is not a lawyer.

He didn't know if this applied to any government such as a car registration.

I don't intent to try to use it as an original but might carry it with me in my car.

I always thought it would be a good idea to make and have available in case my original was lost or stolen, especially since the attorney who got my permanents said if I lost it and had to have it replaced, it would cost me the same as the original did.

If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.

Thanks,

Why not leave original at home and get a certified copy from a notary, spend 50 pesos and not risk criminal charges for a fake card? Replacements do not cost as mush as the original but still a few thousand pesos for the police report, etc.

yes the forgery thing. the notorised copies we have are in black and white on a letter size paper so that there is room for the notario's signature and stamp. cost me 100p to have 3 things notorized at once.

Thanks. I'll do the notary thing.

Hate the idea of carrying originals, especially in the car should it get taken.
