Auto zone Empty Auto zone

Will they check my battery to see if it is ok? I have been told by the mechanic one cell is bad and by the battery guy in Chapala that it is good. I believe it is the starter which was repaired recently by this mechanic. TIA

I find the battery/electric guy in Chapala is reliable. Don't know about Autozone.

You might want to stop by the new Orma and see what they can do for you.

Take a simple DC voltmeter and measure the volts on your battery after the ignition is turned off. If you only have 10 volts or so, you do probably have a bad cell.

No, I believe both places will test your battery. They need to do a Load Test on it, not just check the voltage.

http://www.batterystuff.com/blog/how-to-tell-if-your-battery-is-bad.html

2) Take a Voltage Reading

The voltage of a battery is a good way to determine the state of charge. Here's a handy table with the breakdown:

State of Charge Voltage
100% 12.7 - 13.2
75% 12.4
50% 12.2
25% 12.0
Discharged 0 - 11.9
If your battery is reading 0 volts, chances are the battery experienced a short circuit. If the battery cannot reach higher than 10.5 volts when being charged, then the battery has a dead cell.

First step, check all the connections and for any obvious problems in the appearance of the battery.

Second step, check the voltage.  Third step if first seems OK, load test.  The reference I cited explains how you can do this yourself but also either AutoZone or Orma should be able to do this for you.

How old is the battery?
