In Chicago they just had a "Bacon Fest"

Hey there a lot of Canadians in the Chapala area and I have some questions:

Is "Canuck" considered an insult?
How about Gringo"?
Do you like Canadian Bacon better than "American" (gringo) bacon?

there is no such thing as canadian bacon[which is a gringo misnomer] which actually originated in england and is called pea meal bacon or back bacon and breakfast bacon[tocino] is not merkin either. it's made from pork belly. and ain't a gringo invention.. i like both for difernt reasons but no back bacon on pizza.

I think "merkin" is fairly insulting to the ladies. You may wish to rethink your jargon. For example : <it an't porn, it's HBO>. Jajaja. Douche.

think again,men have been known to use a merkin too. read some histericals on the subject. ya left out bag in yer douch thingy.. besides the yanquis on here know what i is infurring when i use the term "merkin" ya left coast swell.

Canuck is perfectly acceptable to most (all?) Canadians. I've never heard the term Canako. A quick Google search seems to suggest it has something to do with Japanese animation.

As Pedro suggested, we tend to call Canadian bacon back bacon. It's pretty good, but it's not bacon.

we have now educated neighbours and amongst our moto clubs to call us hosers.
towards the end of our moto gathering yesterday,we hosers outnumbered the gringos by 8to 1, being almost equal in number to our mexican amigos.

i recall it being used before bob and doug but can't recall when and why. i do like the hockey version though.

I've never been called a "Canuck".  Although I don't consider it to be insulting, I'd rather be referred to as a Canadian.  

I've been called a "Gringa" only once (to my face) by a 5 year old trying to get my attention.  I found it to be quite disrespectful and would definitely prefer to be addressed with the term Senora.

As far as bacon is concerned, I've never distinguished the two by "Canadian" or "American".  In our house, it's referred to as back bacon or bacon.  Bacon is our typical purchase for breakfast or flavour (yes, we spell it with a "u") in another dish and back bacon is typically an option for a pizza.

I find Pedro's constant use of the term "Merkin" quite offensive and totally humorless. We don't accept racial, ethnic or nationalist slurs on this board. Why is this acceptable? Pedro better watch out or he may yet have to answer to the Coca-Cola company.

Of course the use of merkin is offensive (as it is knowingly intended to be). He does it because he is allowed to get away with being demeaning and insulting. He is using a nationalist slur with a touch of misogyny thrown in. What is there for the perpetual adolescent not to enjoy?

i have used the word merkin to describe certain denizens of the excited states long before someone pointed out on thorne tree that that was the name of a pubic wig worn by both sexes that had std's among other things circa 1450. so after somebody pointed that out we all had a good laugh-ALL of us from around the world and even MERKINS. there is nothing misogynistic nor nationalistic about it except in peoples minds who look for such things because of their nature. the reason i first started using merkin instead of american is because yanquis ain't the only americans, not just because it's shorter . fer example i call canadians canuckleheads and canada canuckleheadland on ocassion.

WELL, may I say that some of us ladies never considered the option because we do not need it. Just like you macho guys do not need a toupee, yes?

When I was at the University of Montana, I called by Canadian friends "Canucks",but didn't get called "merkin" in return.
Ya can learn something new every day.

Can one be proud to be a Merkin?
