Lake Chapala Economy Survey Empty Lake Chapala Economy Survey

Post by LukeSK Fri Jun 05, 2015 10:02 am

Hello Inside Lakeside members! I want to introduce myself as I am new to the forums, my name is LukeSK and I’m currently working on an economy project/investigation, this project will use the Lake Chapala area as the main study subject. I am currently studying the market and the potential for economic growth in the area, I’m also going to compare how small town businesses all around Mexico just like the ones in Chapala and Ajijic interact and compete with the big chain stores that saturate the market.

I created a simple survey that consists of six questions with basic answers and I would greatly appreciate it if you guys and gals could take two minutes of your precious time to answer this survey that will help my ongoing research that will later be translated into a full detailed article.

You can complete the survey by clicking this link: https://es.surveymonkey.com/s/8P6NJRD

Thank you,

LukeSK

who is this for and what are your qualifications to do  a simple survey of ferners in this region? have you done psychographic and demographic studies as a precursor to this?
i question the use of something as unprofessional as "surveymonkey" as well.

In my experience, this sort of thing usually includes some monkey business.

If you are speaking of "Mexican Ajijic villagers", last night, it could have been 100%, as I didn't see anyone that looked like English was their first language, and also, by the number of kids at the check out lines. The one couple we ran into, we knew, were Mexicans from Ajijic.

It's hard to say what "villages" the (I guess) Mexicans are from, probably from Jocotepec to Mezcala, and even beyond.

If you want to see the "gringo, ex-pat" shoppers, go during the day on weekdays.  If you want to see the near 100% Mexican participation at these stores, go, starting on Friday night and all through the weekend.
I don't believe the sales to foreigners at the two stores you mentioned are significant enough to cause their closure if they didn't exist.
Walmart and Soriana are all over Mexico in areas where very few foreigners live, and they do very well.

Saturday afternoon and Sundays works, too. The Tuesday crowd often arrives from the outlying areas in buses.

Nowadays, they use computers ole timer...

I use WalMart...
I believe there are both pros and cons to big box retailers...
I believe the presence of big box retailers can have an effect on local economies... by changing the dynamic... the results can be both positive and negative...
I believe better values can be found with small retailers ...
I can live with or without WalMart...

Some people need to lighten up.

I can fairly well tell that the survey was written by someone for whom English is not their first language. The English is very good, but there are a couple of obvious signs. And I'd be willing to bet that, based on the questions, it was written by a University student who is simply doing research for an assignment. ("Research" would be one of those words that is glaringly missing….."investigation" was used instead, almost a dead give-away.)

I answered the survey as best I could. Yes of course, the questions could be much more refined, but that's not my job.

P.S. And Pedro, your garbage, awful, constantly and intentionally misspelled English probably doesn't help someone who has busted their ass to learn English. Maybe on this one, single occasion you could show some respect. If this is a student, they should be rewarded for their ingenuity at finding a way to communicate efficiently with foreigners. And how is your Spanish coming along, by the way?

How about if instead we make this thread about the survey and the student, and not about you?

i have diligently discussed the survey and it's failings and you have decided to make it about me, so feel free to desist.

I crossed the border in Tijuana many, many years ago. And by the time I got to the bus station and purchased my ticket to Mazatlan I spoke more Spanish than you speak now.
