Been reading about having to sell your vehicles when you become a permanent resident. Is it the same for boats and golf carts?

Trailers that enter Mexico must leave with the towing vehicle as they are on the same Importada Temporal. I assume the same rules apply for all ‘vehicles‘ that are registered. Not sure how a golf cart might be classified.

Boats are imported for 10 years under separate permit and from what I recall permanente status may not be an issue. Golf carts may be an issue if they were brought in under another vehicle as a recreational vehicle.

So then sounds like if I bring a small trailer in when crossing with a TR visa then I can't sell the trailer in MX.  Is the VIN of the trailer then associated with the tow vehicle and they become one ?

Yes.  The VIN# of the trailer also appears on your vehicle TIP.  When you exit and attempt to turn in your TIP, the Banjercito agent will check all of the VIN#s listed to ensure they are a match and take digital photos of the VIN plates and attach then to your records. If something doesn't match or one item is missing - no TIP refund.
