QUICK CHANGES Empty QUICK CHANGES

Post by gringal Wed Jun 17, 2015 9:13 am

The current banner ad reminds me of how fast things come and go around here. After the pictured real estate ad, there was a blank period, followed by a security company and as of now, a deli with bakery goods. Gone in sixty seconds, so to speak.

The restaurant scene seems to follow the same pattern. Those who can hang in a one location are rare. On the waterfront in Ajijic: First there was Roberto, then Yves, then a Creperie..........and now, nada. Alas. I don't hold out much hope for Maria Isabel.

The current tenant, Green Door Bakery, also sells at the Tuesday Market and has several breads that are to-die-for. Hopefully they will be around for a good long while.

Yes, they have really good bread. I popped in there to see about getting some eggs, but 480 pesos per dozen was beyond my thrift border. Don't know about the other deli items. Someone from LCS got one of their pre made sandwiches and liked it.
They are a nice family.

Truth.  Maybe the chickens dined on something special.  When I said "how much?" she said I could buy less than a dozen.
HUH?  Anyway, the eggs at the Farmers Market are pricey from another vendor, too.  I buy mine at Puritan Poultry and they taste just fine for a lot less. Rolling Eyes

What are eggs going for @ Lakeside?   Here in AZ we are paying $3.00  USD for x/l eggs.   Do the 480 pesos eggs have a prize in them?

I'll deliver 100 dozen eggs on my next trip to Lakeside for 300 pesos, per dozen guaranteed fresh! Beer  Twisted Evil   Also, 100 pounds of Idaho Russets .......

I would ask again. There is absolutely no way a dozen eggs are $480 pesos. Definitely a translation problem. I'll bet they are $48 pesos.

I suspect an error; maybe it was 48 pesos per kilo. Even that is very high.

Eggs aren't sold by the kilo. It was $48 pesos per dozen I'll wager.

In Chiapas the eggs from free range hens are expensive and they are 3 eggs for 10 pesos which makes them or 40 pesos a dozen..480 pesos  does not make any sense. I agree it has to be 48 pesos a dozen.

Yves has a very ambient restaurant on the West side. No lake view but a fabulous huge fountain (former swimming pool). The food is wonderful as is the atmosphere and service. You probably already knew this but just in case.....

In Guadalajara most eggs are  sold by the kilo,25 to 30 pesos per, about 18 eggs per kilo.
They do sell them by the dozen in supermarkets but it's not the norm.

I have never seen them sold by the kilo anywhere around here (or anywhere period) and besides it still wouldn't make sense based on $480. Maybe they were pricing them by the 10 KGs........jajaja.

Well folks: ask them yourself. The lady speaks very clearly.
Seems like I recall some time ago asking about eggs at the Tuesday Market from one vendor who wanted at least 40 pesos per dozen, not kilo, not truckload. Shocked

The organic eggs at Green Door are 4 pesos each. Yes, I have asked. So a dozen is $48. We pay 2.5 pesos here in Santa Cruz direct from the henhouse so it is a reasonable amount with middleman markup available in downtown Ajijic.

The sandwiches at Green Door are delicious!!!

My company had this location as our satellite office for about one year, no tangible increase in business so the lease was cancelled. Our main office is only a block and a half away so it was redundant. Plus, the landlords had not been paying for water or something and asked us to use the LCS bathroom instead of the bathroom there in case an inspector came around. Umm. No.

I don't know about Ajijic but tiendas in Joco, Ixtlahuacán and Chapala all sell eggs in a plastic bag by the kilo. I always order media kilo. (About 8 eggs) You carry them very carefully.

Interesting......all the places I have ever bought them here or in Canada have been by the dozen. Mind you I have never bought them at a tianguis or small corner store. It looks like Thomashellyer has solved the mystery anyhow. They are priced as "eaches"........ Very Happy
